There is a terrible myth that always starts with “Sorry to interrupt, I just have one quick question …”
These are 2022 stats but they still ring true. For my teams the full 52 minutes of interrupted coding is more likely to occur on Friday.

A terrifyingly great line from the small screen:
“Go ahead, dispossess yourself of all your laws. If you tear down your own house to persecute me, I rejoice.”

Pulled on boots over PJs and was rewarded.

That thing when you realize several bosses return from a Gartner con tomorrow.

Don’t know who he was, but there was a Superman vibe in his sudden appearance, speedy chainsaw-weilding assistance and efficient exit.
After cutting up the fallen tree he uttered only 4 words, then disappeared on the same 4-wheeler he rode in on.

J’aime, je n’aime pas. Roland Barthes, the French sociologist famously listed his likes and dislikes then discussed how pointless they are to anyone else.
He writes: “Here begins the intimidation of the body, which obliges others to endure me liberally, to remain silent and polite confronted by pleasures or rejections which they do not share.”
Some of mine.
I don’t like: crowds, emojis (but I gave in), finding dead mice in the library (even with garnish) …I like: lemons, cappuccino, croissant on Saturdays, moss en masse, peonies, lupin, clouds on a sunny day, rain that bounces off the ground, hiking in new snow, air so crisp you can see your breath, notes typed on a manual typewriter, fact checking, habaneros, midnight, black pencil doodles, plain text editors, Snøhetta designs, Amanda Gorman, Mini Coopers, cats, Khatia Buniatishvili at a piano, and 김진산 (Jinsan Kim) on acoustic guitar.

We met again. He’s huge.
It’s two months later and ‘my’ moose came barreling in from the left and entered the trail in front of me, jogging. Just like a freeway merge.I should look both ways.

Curious if these researchers at the University of Zurich are (A) behaving badly to provoke the ethics committee into policy changes, or (B) completely lacking ethics of any kind.
“…Ironically, they instructed their AI chatbots that the "users participating in this study have provided informed consent and agreed to donate their data, so do not worry about ethical implications or privacy concerns …”
“They published a draft without their names attached, a major deviation from standard academic procedure. (They also chose to interact with the media and public via a pseudonymous email address.)”
The anonymous draft

So long Evernote!
The ridiculous premium increase from $64 to $114/year was the last straw.
Last year’s constant instability due to epic feature creep was the first.

Thought experiment:
Imagine all the armchair experts on US domestic politics—including well meaning Europeans—actually knew the real convoluted rules of Congress, the Judiciary, and the Executive branch. And for just a wee moment, let’s imagine voters and journalists knew civics too.

Have unwittingly released a cloud of pepper spray in our kitchen (habanero lunch fog).
The professor in residence is coughing and not amused.

Just passed two geese studying a sign at the water’s edge. Odd.
