A #Yorkshireman working on a #NorthSea #oilrig rescued an #owl that had been blown nearly 300km off course by #StormAmy - he fed her for a few days and she was collected by a #wildlife sanctuary in #Shetland , checked over by #vets and released
(it is impressive the lad was able to catch an owl and even had all the kit ready to look after her!)

Don’t know who he was, but there was a Superman vibe in his sudden appearance, speedy chainsaw-weilding assistance and efficient exit.
After cutting up the fallen tree he uttered only 4 words, then disappeared on the same 4-wheeler he rode in on.

130 windswept miles north to @theangelinntopcliffe at Topcliffe, North Yorkshire, UK. No damage from Storm Amy, but quite a lot of large twigs ended up on the roof last night 🚐💨🌪️

Unweigerlich denke ich bei solchen Stürmen hier an den fiktiven, den Lucy in #EineTüteGrünerWind erlebt, kaum dass sie im Cottage ihrer Tante angekommen ist.

What is left of ex-hurricane Humberto has been named Storm Amy (the first named storm of the season) by the UK Met Office.
The 12h UT GFS model run shows the track running further north, sparing Ireland from the strongest winds. It then tracks north of Shetland and northwards to the west of Finland.
Peak winds are expected to graze past the north of Ireland and up the west coast of Scotland starting midday on Friday. Winds will be blustery across much of the UK Friday and Saturday.

Sur cette simulation du modèle européen au Sud de Terre-Neuve pour cette nuit, l'ouragan #Imelda est au Sud-Ouest à 974Hpa et est en train d'absorber #Humberto qui n'est plus tropical. Un 3° centre dépressionnaire s'est formé en aval le long du courant Jet qui est notre #StormAmy

La tempête #Amy #StormAmy la première de la saison a été nommée par le @metoffice pour des rafales dépassant nettement les 100 km/h sur Nord de l'Irlande et de la GB. Elle ne porte pas le nom de #Humberto et il y a une raison particulière à cela
