  1. The burning of the brash in the field behind us of another one of the huge tress blown over by #stormamy last year has provided a great bed of embers for a spontaneous bbq. It was a beautiful beech tree and it was over 120 years old.

  2. Drawing - Ink-Paint - on watercolour paper - 29x42cm - Linda Sgoluppi

Drawing while Storm Amy was battering the windows and doors of a remote house in Wales where I was odd. Drawing became about a quiet, creeping sense of solitude that comes with time, the way the world subtly recedes as people leave our lives, through death, or just distance. The wilder the storm grew the odder the act of drawing felt. The pen moved freely, and where the black paint had pooled, dried and felt too heavy, I gently ground it, and some ink away. I didn’t feel buffeted by being in the full force of Storm Amy even though I went outside to experience it, I was being lashed by horizontal rai, the wind howled enough to set nerves on edge and waves crashed enough to wash cliffs away. I was outside and was being buffetted, but buffetting seemed to come more from drawing this drawing.

  3. A #Yorkshireman working on a #NorthSea #oilrig rescued an #owl that had been blown nearly 300km off course by #StormAmy - he fed her for a few days and she was collected by a #wildlife sanctuary in #Shetland , checked over by #vets and released

(it is impressive the lad was able to catch an owl and even had all the kit ready to look after her!)

  4. The remains of a large Conger eel (Conger conger) likely caught out by the big swells that arrived in the wake of Storm Amy and thrown high up on the shoreline. Black-backed gulls have been claiming their share.

  5. "What did you do during the great storm (Storm Amy) of 2025?"

I mostly sat around the kitchen table burning candles. I did the same for the same for the next four nights. Electrical power supply returned on Wednesday morning.

I did drive home late on Friday night. I've never experienced such "carnage" on roads before. On the short 7 mile drive home there were 2-dozen trees blown across the road. It was like driving a slalom course.

  6. Fire, light, book - power cut essentials (plus camp stove). Just had the weirdest outage ever. Friday evening some power failed completely, some partially, sone not at all. Some lights worked normally, some flickered, some dimmed, some were out. Same with appliances. This lasted two days then all the power failed. Came back on this evening. #powercut #stormamy

  7. My mother Anne slipped and fell at her home on Friday.
My sister Donna took her to the local hospital, where it was decided that she must be transferred immediately to the mainland.
The Scottish Air Ambulance took her direct to Crosshouse Hospital in Ayrshire just as #StormAmy arrived.
Mum was given a CT scan which indicated a massive bleed into the brain.
She was admitted to a ward and given a quiet room.
All 4 children gathered from around the UK.

  8. Don’t know who he was, but there was a Superman vibe in his sudden appearance, speedy chainsaw-weilding assistance and efficient exit.

After cutting up the fallen tree he uttered only 4 words, then disappeared on the same 4-wheeler he rode in on.

  9. The swirl of cloud associated with #StormAmy has moved away towards Scandinavia ☁️

Sunday has been a less unsettled day in Amy's wake but it's still blustery in places with a few showers in the west 🌧️

  10. 130 windswept miles north to @theangelinntopcliffe at Topcliffe, North Yorkshire, UK. No damage from Storm Amy, but quite a lot of large twigs ended up on the roof last night 🚐💨🌪️
