  2. "Downplaying the bloodbath comment or giving credence to the idea that it could have been a metaphor, ignores the fact that Trump had, just minutes before, been praising the January 6 insurrectionists who bashed cops and attempted to murder his vice president."

To riff on #GertrudeStein (forgive me #modernists), someone who knew a #metaphor when she saw one (and when she didn't): A bloodbath is a bloodbath is a bloodbath.

    I brought back
@TenderButtons & I will continue to make changes to it until it gets into a sustainable rhythm. For the next 2 weeks it will be tooting about 4 times per day. I think I will get it down to 2x day after that. This is a labor of love because the peculiar turns of phrase by #GertrudeStein inspire me & I want to see this work on the fediverse.

Room to comb chickens and feathers and ripe purple, room to curve single plates and large sets and second silver, room to send everything away, room to save heat and distemper, room to search a light that is simpler, all room has no shadow.

No, never bred them. Our first cat was a Burmese and we bred her. And Siamese. I used to go to cat shows in London with an elderly lady who bred Cornish Rex and we both showed our cats. Once I got to know the Rex breed I knew that I wanted to have them. Their personality is so special. When we came back to Canada a local lady bred them and we got #Rupert , our first. He was amazing. Then Molly. When they died, we were without for 1.5 years. Now we have these 3. And love them.

  8. I took my camera for an evening walk to document the damage the recent storm #Gertrud has done to the local forest cemetery. And it took out quite a few big and seemingly sturdy beeches.

    So here's #ThickTrunkTuesday on a sad note.

    Please.
    If you please.
    And if you please.
    And if they please
    And they please.
    To be pleased
    Not to be pleased.
    Not to be displeased.
To be pleased and to please.

    😀

  16. "Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney," Robert Henri, 1916.

Henri (1865-1925) was an influential American painter and teacher, a founder of the Ashcan school of realism, which sought to use art as journalism. Of course, he was not above the occasional glamorous portrait...

Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney (1875-1942) was a wealthy heiress and art collector as well as being a talented sculptor in her own right. Her wealth made her a great patron of the arts, but she wasn't stuffy or conservative; she championed women artists, promoted new styles and the avant-garde, and backed composers of modern music. She founded the Whitney in New York to house her collection of American art (which the Met rejected) and deliberately sought to embrace modernism and declare that American art was as good as any other.

She's so lovely and self-assured here; she was a big wheel, and she knew it.

From the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York. (Of course!)
