Hey social.lol thought I'd do my #introduction now that I've got my migration done.
I'm heading over here from The Forkiverse via the good folks at Sunny.Garden who let me crash on their couch for a couple weeks while I figured things out.
I'm a 25 year blogger and working on migrating over the wess.pika.page (main URL coming once posts are migrated). I was excited to learn about omg.lol from @todd when I mentioned I was looking for a new blogging platform. My bio is a work in progress https://wess.omg.lol.
I've been interested in the positive sides of internet culture and have become increasingly suspicious of the business models of the big tech companies and the attention fracking they are based on. So I am tech-critical, not a luddite but inspired by them, and just got my first #dumbphone (from dumb.co) since before the iPhone launched.
I'm a Quaker theologian and faculty member at Guilford College in Greensboro, NC. Guilford was started by Quakers in 1837 and I'm the person on faculty responsible for teaching about that tradition.
Besides teaching on Quakerism, I do a lot of #attentioneducation, teach on boredom, the practice of silence, liberation theology, and technology.
I've been involved with the #PoorPeoplesCampaign and #antipoverty movements. I am an author and write about #resistingempire and theology that is critical of the powers that be. While we cannot extricate ourselves from Empire we need to be aware of the ways in which we can resist and build communities of resistance.
I'm a wanna-be-artist. I love #sketchnoting and am a huge #stationary nerd and #penaddict. You can see my tools on my blog.
I love riding my #gravelbike, #reading, playing pickup basketball, and listening to music.
Favorite bands consist of #radiohead, #phoebebridgers, #bobdylan, #deepseadiver, #sharonvanetten, #interpol, #pedrothelion, Explosions in the Sky, and more. I got to see Quest Love perform in Greensboro recently and about died it was so amazing.
Most importantly, I'm married (25 years), a father of three and have a lovely but very anxious 6 year-old rescue pup named magnolia. I'm concerned with mental health and the impact of our technologies on our young folks.
I'm not a fan of AI. I don't use it for anything that my brain is better suited to handle. I believe in the importance of cognitive strain. I think we should have the choice to opt-in, I think we need to never give up the work of thinking and discernment, datacenters are terrible, and #eattherich all day long.
Oh and lastly, I own a small coffee roasting business called #fireweedcoffeeco (link in profile). We're a micro roaster but if you love coffee and you want to order some, I ship within the US.
