I am so sick of #email.
Email clients are getting worse. Messages aren't being delivered because of "spam filtering". Email providers refuse to explain why messages aren't delivered when the raw email is fine. There is a high percentage of DKIM failures on microsoft-run servers. US government addresses have high rates of DMARC failures. And it is impossible to run your own email server if you care about deliverability.
How is this going to end? Will we fix email, or switch to something else?

The number of abstracts submitted to the Lunar and Planetary Science Conference (#LPSC) this year is down by almost 50% when compared to normal years.
It's hard to say what is the main cause, but big factors are Europeans who don't want to travel to the US, reductions of US research budgets, censorship of abstracts, and just your average hatred of Texas.

How should you refuse invitations to review manuscripts for journals with exorbitant #APCs? I see a lot of people who post their responses to the editor explaining why they refuse to take part in an unethical business enterprise. But what does this really accomplish?

I just got this spam from #AGU/#Wiley. They are proud to say that JGR-Planets costs authors only 4070 USD for open access, and they claim that this is "lower than our competitors".
I never thought of JGR-Planets as having "competitors". As a society led journal, they are supposed to serve its members.

Are you in #academia? And have you written anything negative about the #TrumpCultureWars? There is a great new website where you can #SelfReport!

BREAKING NEWS
The #RoyalSociety has disbanded following mass resignations resulting from their decision to keep #ElonMusk as a fellow. The King has further revoked their royal charter. In the face of #fascism, I knew I could count on scientists!

A french researcher going to the #LPSC conference outside of Houston wasn't allowed to enter the US. After a "random" control at the border, the police searched their phone and computer and found compromising statements about Trump.

The new journal Advances in Geochemistry and Cosmochemistry is now open for submissions!
#AGC is diamond open access journal, which means that there are no article processing fees for authors, and no subscription fees for readers.

I'm happy to report that the Institut de physique du globe de Paris (#IPGP) has left X. I'm unhappy to report that they have switched to Bluesky.
And of course no one in our institute was consulted....

If you are a scientist that uses color to help display your work (which is probably almost everyone), then you will not want to miss this #ISSI Game Changers seminar by Fabio Crameri

Parisian institutions, such as at #IPGP where I work, simply can not offer an honest salary to hire qualified accountants, secretaries, and IT specialists, even if they have the money to do so. Open positions are left unfilled, forcing you either to hire no one, or to hire someone who is not qualified for the job.

The Japanese mission #HAKUTO-R was supposed to land on the #Moon two days ago, but it is now believed that the spacecraft crashed into the surface. This spacecraft was built by the privately funded company #ispace.
This failure follows on the crash of the #Beresheet lander on April 11 2019 that was built by the private Israeli company #SpaceIL.
This year we will see three more landing attempts by the private US companies #Astrobotics and #IntuitiveMachines.

After twenty years of planning, I finally did it: On my last trip to Belgium, I stopped at the #SaintSixtusAbbey and bought a case of #Westvleteren 12.

Now that I have a new home on solarsystem.social, here's a new #introduction!
I am a #planetary scientist working at the Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris (#IPGP) in France. My research uses the #gravity field, #topography, and #MagneticField of the planets to decipher their internal structure and geologic evolution. My favorite terrestrial body is the #Moon, but I also work with #Mercury, #Venus, and #Mars. Soon I will need to learn about #Psyche and the icy satellites of #Jupiter!

Deep in the bowels of #FrenchBureaucracy and administration, someone discovered the solution to solve all #ScientificMisconduct. Starting January 2023, at the end of a Ph.D. thesis defense, the student will now have to read aloud the following proclamation
"In the presence of my peers. Having completed my doctorate in ...,
