This is why well-functioning open-source Datasets such as #commonvoice are so important ... Quote: Underlying that efficiency is a decision to build on existing foundations. IBM trained its speech model by modality aligning Granite 4.0 to speech on publicly available open-source corpora rather than building a separate speech stack.

(2 of 4) Next from the Global #IndiaAIImpactSummit2026
Next let me highlight my colleague's Bhavika Nanawati anouncement on what it takes to build voice-first AI that truly serves India’s linguistic diversity: "Proud to have launched two important publications ... focused on strengthening open, inclusive, and responsible voice technologies as a core layer of India’s digital public infrastructure. ...

(1 of 4) Hi and I am sharing here some key points from the Global #IndiaAIImpactSummit2026
I start with the very thoughtful summary by Linda Griffin of #Mozilla So true: "with proprietary systems, winning means owning. With #opensource approaches, winning means we’re not just renting AI from a few companies and countries: we’re working collectively to build, share, secure and inspect AI systems in the name of growth and the public interest." #IndiaAIImpactSummit2026 https://blog.mozilla.org/netpolicy/2026/02/20/behind-the-velvet-rope-the-ai-divide-on-display-at-the-india-ai-impact-summit-2026/

Study exposes Gaps in German Companies’ Duty of Care w. regard to outsourcing online work to GIG workers in the socalled "Global South": By designing logos, labeling #AI training data, programming software, cloud workers in the Global South keep digital business models running. The study sheds light on why their work has hardly been considered part of supply chains until now. Checking #FairWork ratings (https://fair.work/en/ratings/cloudwork/ ) are good first step #GigEconomy

I am resharing here a post by @lelapaai :
"Big language models are impressive. Small, efficient ones that scale are transformative.
InkubaLM was built to prove a simple point that much of the industry still ignores: AI does not need endless compute or data to perform well. By engineering InkubaLM for low-resource and code-switching environments, we demonstrated that efficiency is a competitive advantage that unlocks scale across markets"

Great piece by Lea Gimpel of "Digital Public Good Alliance" on “Digital Sovereignty Using Digital Public Goods”. I really liked the push back on isolationism👍 : “There is an ongoing misconception that the digital sovereignty movement is “isolationist.” Open-source and digital public goods are inherently designed to enable commons-based peer production.”

I am boosting here a piece by #GIZ s"Ensuring everyone benefits from AI" - I am happy and proud to be part of efforts and the following commitment: "GIZ is specifically committed to small, specialised, resource-efficient and open AI models. The advantage of this is that we share the AI to encourage the development of markets and innovation at local level." Let's continue to democratize AI through #opensource - Disclaimer: I am involved through #fairforward #OpenSource https://akzente.giz.de/en/ai-artificial-intelligence-fair-forward

I just found #DPGA s new website on "Calls for Collaborative Action". They want to to galvanise support for global "digital public goods" in four key areas: Open-Source First Policies, Principles and Frameworks; Open Data for Public Interest AI; DPG4DPI Financing; and DPGs for Climate Action. I am curious how the planned knowledge exchange will look like. https://www.digitalpublicgoods.net/calls-for-collaborative-action
