  1. I keep having this weird problem where I have one foot in Tailscale and one foot not and that state is complicating my thinking about my homelab.

I'm hesitant to fully commit to it, which means use it when I'm on the LAN because there is no reason things should not just work on the LAN without it and if my Internet is down Tailscale will not work and I don't want my muscle memory and workflows to be based on it.

But realistically, how often is my internet down? It's extremely rare.

  2. Re-inspired and motivated by participating in @fediforum, I set up a Etherpad instance for collaborative note taking during @mtec meetings.

  3. Watching the Stagecoach performance of Counting Crows, one of my All Time Top 5 Favorites, on YouTube. Mr. Jones comes on and I'm thinking that rocking to this now is like rocking to something that came out in 1963 the year this song came out and no shade to great music from the 60s, I'm not liking the math of that.

  4. Yesterday I set up the final piece of the backup solution for my self-hosted services: ntfy notifications to my phone. I woke up to 0 failure notifications for any backup location and 1 notification that the autorestic process had completed.

Manual inspection of snapshots and autorestic log confirms. Next week I’ll do a test restore from backup.

I'm not yet self-hosting ntfy itself, but I may do that in the future on my vps.

  5. I just have one thing to say about the Super Bowl: What were the Vikings thinking?

  6. Still thinking about the Vikings' (6-8) decision not to keep Darnold (1̵1̵-̵3̵ 12-3) after last season.

  7. Sports I’m watching simultaneously:

    - Inter Miami FC playoff game
    - Canadian Olympic Curling Qualifier men’s playoff match
    - UVA vs Virginia Tech Football

    I might have a problem.

  8. Never parent a dog with an early-bird.

There will be times when your are forced to cover their shift.

  9. I love getting to listen in on the video replay discussion by officials in college football. (It seems like this is only a thing for select ACC games on ESPN and ACC Network.) I'm looking forward to hearing the discussion about one that is less clear-cut than the one I just saw.

  10. Due to the boy’s new high school schedule, I have to get up an hour earlier and, critically, go to bed an hour earlier.

This has been an episode of Night Owl Problems.

  11. What a battle in the final of the Copa America Femina! Congrats to Marta and Brazil and Columbia for the epic competition.

//Turns attention to Messi and Inter Miami CF in Leagues Cup action.//

  12. I'm a Flyers guy, of course, but living in South Florida has made me ok with the Panthers going to the Stanley Cup Finals for the third year in a row.

  13. Grabbed some tickets to see Hokies at Hurricanes in late September. I’m not a VaTech alumni but as a Virginian, I primarily support them.

  14. Then there was a quick, one-off on one of my favorite topics, art heists. An episode of SpyCast, from the International Spy Museum, “The Most Famous Art Detective in the World" with ex-FBI legend Robert Wittman and a discussion of the recovery of over $300 million worth of stolen art and cultural property” during his career.

  15. As usual, the Stanley Cup playoffs are a-whole-nother-level compared to the regular season. It's always a joy to watch, even when my team is not in it.

  16. Why does Apple insist on clobbering my local development Apache configs every macOS upgrade? I just need it to work a few times a year for a couple freelance sites I barely touch and it keeps taking longer to get it back to working. I know most devs abandoned this method long ago, but I think I’ve finally reached my breaking point. I just didn’t feel like setting up something new from scratch tonight.
