  2. I've been 3D-printing for around five and a half years. So I'm not a rookie, but I just made a #rookie #mistake.

    I've spent the last couple of weeks making compartments and dividers and such for the toolboxes I take to the Repair Cafe. Lots of test #prints to check fits and footprints, full prints, changes to design based on lessons learned during use at the last cafe, etc. I've put around three kilograms of #filament through my printer in that time.

    Then, in the last couple days, I started having various problems. At first they only showed up on big prints - #adhesion and #curling, which I've had before when pushing the limits of my bed size. But prints seemed to be getting #sloppier, and I had a couple of spaghetti explosions.

    Tonight, I finally took the #hotend apart and looked at it closely - it's very difficult to do when the printer is fully assembled, because it's a #delta printer.

    Lo and behold, the nozzle appeared worn. And that can account for all the problems.

    I should have checked this sooner - but I've only been printing plain #PLA, nothing abrasive, so I didn't think of it. Lesson learned.

    Pardon the shitty photo from a cheap digital magnifier. The old #nozzle #orifice is about 1.5x the diameter of the new one - so 2.25x the area. No wonder plastic was going everywhere but where it should go!

    Seems to be printing *much* better with a new nozzle.

  22. Office Chair Curling: Hurl Chairs With Playdate Gusto 🪑

    The Playdate handheld’s capacity for casual weirdness never stops. As seen with this April 2026 release Office Chair Curling by indie dev osuika.

    It’s on Playdate and got a Steam launch, too, and in this one you hurl chairs at a target. Like that game curling people only care about whenever the Olympics happens. Indeed.

    Throwing Office Furniture is Fun in Office Chair Curling

    [youtube=youtube.com/watch?v=w-MSj_MrDl]

    We might well be office chair hurling geniuses as we took to this game with instant skill. Pretty much got a bullseye on our third ever throw. Hell yeah!

    It’s very accessible and straightforward in this one. For Office Chair Curling, you use the Playdate handheld’s crank system to whip the chair around you at tremendous speed. You then let go, the chair goes barnstorming off into the direction you’ve picked, and you have to get it somewhere near the central target further down the office.

    Simple, fun, and it gets you straight into the action (internet access also means you compete for high scores with other global players). Behold!

    [youtube=youtube.com/watch?v=w5oWuzL-pZ]

    As you can see, it’s a daft game. A mild distraction, yet it does turn into quite the competitive experience. It’s not really a single player game, the big draw is the level of competition. The 1-on-1 matches where you’re pushing to beat the other player.

    However, it is a short game. The file download size for Playdate is 60MB, tiny compared to many other indie games. It’s a pick-up-and-play deal, one that can get a little repetitive.

    That’s what the Playdate is all about, though, those short sharp little games with a memorable concept that players will keep returning to every now and then. Think of the ridiculousness of Touch Egg and you’ve kind of got it.

    Office Chair Curling has an absurdist concept that’ll draw a specific audience in, then keep you there for a brief while as you explore its curious mechanics. At a couple of quid, it delivers on its promise.

    You will never look at office chairs the same way again…

  23. Mayor Chow dropped in to visit our 2SLGBTQIA+ curling league this afternoon, little surprise visit. She was surprised to hear the city owns three curling clubs - we don’t cross her desk much I guess! - and was impressed at our queer curling leagues in operation since 1962!

  28. I won my first #curling league A-bracket championship last night! I was skip and had a great team, all of whom made my job easy. They were such monsters that I was often using skip-stones to throw guards, and we stole 3 on the penultimate end. Feeling good!

    Now on to the next league. 8 games and we've started off 0-1 in a truly competitive match last Sunday. Lots of time to get that turned around.

  32. Spent the afternoon checking out Rock League, the new professional curling league that’s starting up this year with a special one week first season. Great fun, lots of great curling and merch and activities, and lots of high-tech cameras too - they tried hard to assemble a quality first go at it. Nifty!
