I've been searching on Umweltrat-de for information on the embedded CO2 in CCS.
You know, like, how much more gas has to be burned in order to capture the CO2.
And additionally, how much energy is required to make the solvent that goes into the CCS process, and how much energy goes into transport and storage.This new-ish Greenpeace publication

The energy carrier used in a power plant itself is necessarily the same as used for power generation, I guess.
But the energy for making the solvent and for transport and storage of the captured CO2 might be from a different source, potentially renewable. So that's why I'd like to have this split into two parts.If a CCS+gas power plant needs, lets say, 3x more gas to actually remove CO2 from power generation compared to a gas power plant without CCS,
this CCS+gas incurs 3x more methane leakage!
AND also 3x more CO2.
So a test installation that allegedly removes 1Mt of CO2 per year, only removes 330kt from power generation, and the remaining 670kt removed were CO2 from the removal process itself?
Or in other words, 1Mt removed leads to 2Mt emitted?I think, this information must be out there in the public debate. Especially now when the Green's newly legislated gas power plants of 12.5GW have been increased by the new government to 20 GW.
CCS means more gas is burned. The removal efficiency is bad. The methane leaks alone are making this endeavour even worse than just burning coal.

I'm triggered by this "I don't care for a niche, where some hundred people might survive somewhere somehow."I disagree with the scale of "some hundred people".
And I disagree with "not care for".The way I see it, the "self-termination" of the current civilisation or human systems organisation happens very quickly – if it happens, and it's still preventable.
Because staying on the high-emission pathway requires a certain mindset which also happens to be the mindset that is most likely to overlook social policy adaptation for cushioning the impacts.
You know, fascists don't do social politics of the kind helpful to navigate compounding impacts of climate and ecological disruptions.So. This lack of adaptation in social politics then is the main driver for collapse (and not some global mean temperature threshold).
And this makes collapse likely to happen very soon rather than later.Which in turn means, it'll happen near the remaining CO2 budget for WellBelow2.
Which also means that survivors of the collapse keep a chance at staying in place in most regions, ie most won't have to migrate for another few centuries.
I can't really hazard a guess how many will survive, but far beyond your some hundred.
City dwellers will die. Most citizens in rich, industrialised nations will die.
But rural populations esp in cultures where pre-industrial skills and knowledge are still in living memory, those have a good chance of survival and re-organisation.
A tech civilisation like ours will never again be possible for a few reasons to do with accessibility of energy and other resources.
But a good life on pre-industrial standards will stay possible. Even nice democratic forms of societal organisation.I think, rather than "not care for" those survivors, it is our duty to do everything we can that they get a chance at meaningful survival.
Preventing preventable GHG is still the main thing, of course. But also via research in #RCPcollapse : inform future survivors of how their regional climate will change. Once the death waves have passed in civilisation collapse and trees re-conquer the world, lotsa CO2 gets removed, enough for -0.4°C. 🖖🏽

My parents had left the area expecting future noise. So I grew up in a village far away, cut off without a chance to join.
On weekends there were only few buses, late in the evening none, on sundays only one connection in the early afternoon for visiting people at the hospital or so.

Ob erwartet wird, dass globale SST gehörig sinken wird, ist mir nicht bekannt.
Nach dem letzten starken El Nino 2015/16 und u.a. Ende der 1990er haben wir bezüglich GST ja gesehen, dass es dann nicht mehr runtergeht, sondern ± auf dem neuen Game-Level bleibt.
Mit der SO2 und auch NOx Reduzierung, die asynchron zu Methan- und CO2-Reduzierung passiert, stell ich mir vor, dass wir jetzt auch ± auf dem neuen Level bleiben.
Passend wäre, wenn die Methane-Pledge vom COP26 in Glasgow umgesetzt würde: minus 30% Methanemission bis 2030. Aber sehen tut man davon Null. 150 Staaten sollen es mittlerweile sein. Naja. #NoMoreEmptyPromises https://www.methanepledge.com
Dieser ENSO index, der mehr Faktoren als nur SST in ENSO3.4 berücksichtigt, war in Jun-Jul mit -0.7 schon wieder in La Nina, Sep-Oct war noch -0.5 https://psl.noaa.gov/enso/mei/Mit verlangsamtem AMOC, neueste Studie sagt ja -30% bis 2040 (Pontes et al 2024), werden La Nina Episoden häufiger (zB Matt England et al 2022) und ENSO Variabilität nebst El Nino-Amplituden werden abnehmen (zB Orihuela-Pinto 2022).
Weniger El Nino heißt auch weniger Nino-verursachte CO2-Stöße aus der Landschaft. Das ist doch mal ne nette Interpretation zur Abwechslung. Der Nino-getriebene CO2 Stoß ab September 2023 war ja haarig.

Der Berliner Hauptbahnhof ist auch so ein hostiler Prunkbau, der im Pappmodel sicher gut aussah, aber letztendlich nur ein Ort ist, an dem man sich doppelt freut, wenn man nicht all zu lange auf den verspäteten Zug wartet.
