#Newcastle Airport firefighters have completed training on the new Tyne and Wear #Metro #trains to prepare for emergencies involving the fleet.
Delivered by Metro operator Nexus, the sessions covered carriage layouts, fire detection, emergency access, braking, power supplies, batteries, alarms, intercoms, jacking points and the locations of extinguishers and defibrillators.
More than 40 firefighters provide 24/7 emergency cover at the airport, responding to aircraft incidents, fires and medical emergencies.
Nexus said the training would help emergency services respond effectively to the new Stadler trains. Similar sessions have been delivered to Northumbria Police and Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service.
All 46 new Metro trains have now been delivered and the fleet provides all daily services.

Malaysia’s Ministry of #Transport and Singapore’s Land Transport Authority have been informed that passenger services on the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link are now expected to begin in February 2027.
The revised target is subject to RTS Operations Pte Ltd completing final testing and trial runs, obtaining independent safety certification and securing regulatory approval in both countries.
Infrastructure works in #Singapore and #Malaysia are substantially complete and remain on track to support the start of passenger services. RTSO expects to complete final system tests and trial runs by 31 December 2026, after which an independent assessor will review the system for safety certification.
Authorities in both countries will then consider the certification before granting approval for passenger operations. The two governments said they will continue working with RTSO to support the safe and smooth delivery of the project.

From 2 October 2026, airlines will be required to seat children under 14 with a parent or accompanying adult free of charge, under new #government plans aimed at reducing travel costs for families. Parents can currently face up to £104 in return fees to sit with their child.
Passengers will also be able to correct simple name errors on bookings without charge, ending fees that can reach £40.
The government is also working with airlines and trade unions on a system to share information about persistently disruptive passengers. More than 1,000 serious incidents were recorded by airlines in 2025.
The reforms are intended to provide greater consistency across #UK airlines and will follow Royal Assent of the Civil Aviation Bill.

🇮🇪 The National #Transport Authority (NTA) has launched a public consultation on #Carlow town’s bus services, seeking views from passengers, residents, businesses and other stakeholders on potential improvements. The consultation runs until 5pm on Monday, 2 November 2026.
Introduced in July 2023 and operated by Bus Éireann, the network comprises the CW1 and CW2 routes, which run every 30 minutes. They overlap between Carlow Bus Station and Carlow Fire Station, providing a 15-minute service on this section.
The services have carried more than 1.2 million passenger journeys since their introduction and connect key employment, education, retail and transport destinations. They also provide links to Kilkenny, Wexford, Waterford, Dublin city and #Dublin Airport, as well as the wider Transport for #Ireland network.
The NTA said feedback will help inform the future development of the network.

Thousands of #railway staff across #London and the South East are wearing new uniforms, with more than 5,000 employees at Southern, Thameslink, Gatwick Express and Great Northern receiving updated clothing designed to be practical, comfortable and easy for passengers to recognise.
The new look features a Four Brand Stripe, along with branded ties, neckwear and gilets. Meanwhile, 100% of the previous uniforms have been recycled or reused through GTR’s charity partners.
Unworn clothing has been donated to Suited & Booted in London to help disadvantaged men prepare for job interviews, while trousers and skirts have gone to the Level Trust’s school uniform exchange in Luton. Winter jackets are supporting people experiencing homelessness through the Single Homeless Project.
Items unsuitable for reuse will be shredded and recycled, ensuring the old uniforms avoid landfill while supporting communities across the network.

🇪🇺 A #European Commission study has found that fragmented approaches to deploying the European Rail #Traffic Management System (ERTMS) are driving up costs and adding complexity across #Europe.
Only around 10% of the trans-European rail network is currently equipped with ERTMS, with completing deployment estimated to require €75bn–€85bn in investment. The study says project-specific requirements, national rules, legacy systems and reliance on incumbent suppliers can lead to tailor-made solutions, limiting standardisation and competition.
It recommends greater alignment and more industrialised deployment, including removing legacy Class B systems, stronger project management, wider use of modern engineering tools, simpler engineering rules and streamlined authorisation procedures. The measures are intended to reduce costs and complexity while speeding up deployment.

Work on a new step-free footbridge at Cathays #railway station will enter its main construction phase in October, following initial groundworks and cable diversions.
#Transport for #Wales (TfW) is now preparing foundations for the new ‘Access for All’ footbridge and lifts, with increased activity expected at the station. The project will provide step-free access, improved walkways and a direct link to Cardiff University’s Centre for Student Life.
The existing footbridge will be replaced, with the new bridge and staircase due to open in summer 2027. The scheme is part of the wider South Wales Metro programme and is funded by the Welsh Government through Access for All.
Cathays station will remain open during the works. TfW says it is working with #Cardiff University and the Students’ Union to minimise disruption, with any temporary access changes communicated in advance.

Mayor Tracy Brabin has visited Wrightbus in Northern #Ireland to see the first Weaver Network electric buses being built ahead of their rollout across West Yorkshire from spring 2027.
Wrightbus won a contract in May to produce almost 200 electric #buses for the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, which is taking services into public control through franchising. The buses will be leased to operators, with the authority setting fares and routes and overseeing service standards.
The new vehicles will feature USB charging, air conditioning, increased wheelchair space and flexible areas for pushchairs and luggage. Yorkshire-based Camira Fabrics will supply the seat coverings.
The Weaver Network will also include more than 150 new bus shelters and aim to better connect bus services with trains, future mass transit, walking, wheeling and cycling.
