I feel I want to try bigger, harder runs again soon. And then I'll want a boat that is more forgiving.
The Royal Flush does that. It may not be the greatest boat in the world; but I already own it. And also, I don't currently see any model that's hugely better.
So I'll keep it, and hopefully take it out for a few laps soon!

Ok, the real story is this:
1. I'd been pushing to go "harder, faster" for all my paddling career. This mostly left me stressed.
2. I realized that I'm having more fun paddling Grade III whitewater, where I have things nicely under control
3. The Machete has enough reserves, while the half-slice tail keeps things interesting.
4. By now, I *know* how the boat reacts. So I'm more confident and relaxed! -
Spent the last couple of hours cleaning and photographing no fewer than five #whitewater kayaks, in preparation for selling them.

Fond #memories of the #Ottawa River from years ago:
I fell completely upside down out of a #raft in the middle of a big rapid, head in the water, feet above ....
And somehow found the strap at the back of the boat with my ankle, kicked into it, and swept my #paddle down behind me as we crested the next wave.
Managed to hold on with just my ankle and toss myself back into the boat.
I knew I would never be able to top that.

Had a splendid day out on the river! An easy grade I-II run through a stunning gorge. We went with a few of the teens from our club.
Everyone knew the river well, except one kid for whom it was their first #whitewater creek ever. We all had a great time!

Tomorrow we’ll get up early, because the road out from the campsite will be blocked for works starting at 8am
We’ll do the Srpenica - Trnovo section of the Soča, which the Germans know as “the graveyard”. Not because it’s particularly dangerous, but because you get out near a graveyard.
Still, it’s a more challenging section than what we’ve had so far, and one of Europe’s classic runs. I look forward to paddling there again!

Whew! 😅 everything is packed up.
Tomorrow, I’m driving to #Slovenia, for a long week of #whitewater #kayaking in the Soča valley. I’ve booked a freestyle course. This will be challenging, but fun!
