A wet finish to the year is increasingly favoured across Australia as a major #climate driver emerges for the first time in 3 years.
During recent weeks, changes in #ocean #temperatures show the development of a negative Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) — the wet phase of the Indian Ocean, which rivals La Niña for its positive impact on #Australia's #rainfall.
Negative IODs in the past have contributed to most of Australia's #wettest #winters & #springs on record. #auspol

Lunch time rain. Now bright sun. A friend in the #US has just asked for #recommendations about when to arrive in the #UK for a planned #trip next #spring, probably travelling from #London to #Scotland
My wife's just commented that we're having #April #weather at the moment. We've just had the #wettest #winter on record but #record high #temperatures for many months and last year had a week of 70°F temperatures in #February.
Is there any sensible advice I can offer?

Death Valley is alive this year. A #super #bloom is the latest sign.
In California’s Death Valley region, the last few months have been remarkably loud.
And the latest bellow is still ringing out, with the area’s #native #wildflowers bursting into bloom. The flowers have filled a place best known for its shades of browns and grays with brilliant blasts of yellow and purple and sprinkles of pink and cream.
This display comes just weeks after the 🔹resurrection of a long-dead lake,🔹 which filled the park’s Badwater Basin and drew visitors from across the country for a once-in-a-lifetime chance to paddle across a body of water rarely revived since prehistoric days.
These fleeting phenomena can both be traced to the unusual and record-setting precipitation that has inundated the state since August, when Hurricane Hilary gave Death Valley its #wettest #day ever.Subsequent storms dumped even more rain on the desert, eventually 🌟dragging it out of a years-long #megadrought.🌟

• The wettest year in my series, beating 2014’s 1069.1mm by 59mm.
• My record low MSLP (pressure) of 954.3 mb (28.2 inHg) was recorded on 2nd November.#weather #ukweather #meteorology
