Blank Space by W. David Marx.
While a fun (my lips say 'fun', but my eyes say 'depressing') look back at the 21st century so far, it also left the reader wanting some deeper insight and analysis.
I guess the chapters about the 2016 election and Epstein, for example, provide context, but didn't really add anything to the topic.
It may have been intentional, but based on this book, the author has a fairly limited view of 'culture'.

Is culture running out of new ideas? In "Blank Space," W. David Marx argues innovation is scarcer than we think — and explains why he still sees hope from his base in Tokyo. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/culture/2026/02/21/books/david-marx-tokyo-culture/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #culture #books #wdavidmarx #harajuku #fashion #popculture

I want to share this with you not only as a deeply fascinating reflection of American and Japanese culture, but also because this conversation with a familiar person over a familiar book is so different than the one with @craigmod.com

Here is a manual repost of a #WDavidMarx tweet (that feels old school, I wish he was posting on Mastodon):
"Japanese art director Mitsuo Shindō, the man most responsible for the "look" of Shibuya-kei, has passed away at 75" -
