  1. I would have been hit by a #Waymo if I hadn't observed how Waymos actually perform. A Waymo was stopped in the daylighting zone at the corner, in what was otherwise the parking lane. I was in the right most traffic lane, about to make a right turn. When the light turned green, I started forward - and so did the Waymo. It continued straight, pulling into my lane. It clearly did not recognize (or care) that I was in the traffic lane, or that I had approached with my turn signal on. I was cautious, as I had seen a stopped Waymo start up just as a parked car in front of it began to pull out of a parking place.

Are #Waymos "safe"? - at the low speeds, bodywork would have been damaged, but probability of injury is very low. For a motorcycle or bicycle rider, maybe not so safe. Absolutely incompetent software for city driving.

And I realize I am not sure if we have a common definition of #safe and #safety. If only property damage occurs, is that "safe"?

  6. So I guess are a thing now?

Unoccupied, driverless have invaded a neighborhood near us, repeatedly into a dead-end road, around the cul-de-sac, then driving out. They're not there to pick up passengers. But there are plenty of children and pets in the area.

The cars are lost. And on auto-repeat. :eyeroll:

  16. I saw one of these super aggressive #Google #Waymos a couple of days ago on Folsom Stret, between 1st and Fremont! It was stuck behind a Muni 12 bus and its system decided the passengers were taking too long. Instead of waiting, the #robotaxi crossed the double solid yellow lines to pass the bus, driving into oncoming traffic. It put its passengers, drivers, people walking and biking at risk.

    Yay for 2026!
