Didn’t really take a lot of photos other than this one. I thought the keyboard on this Apricot computer was interesting and typed up something stupid I made up as I wrote it. Here it is with all its typos in green monochrome glow.

Something I dropped a few times while stopping by the Vintage Computer Festival in Tukwila (Seattle) is the line
"These are compys that won't hurt you"
Sure there's lots of nostalgia action going on but there are also people who are way too young to remember any of this shit, right? But they're into it I think because
they're computers
which will NOT
hurt you
by stealing your work, reporting what you do, trying to make you do things
they just sit there and blink a cursor and draw pics and basically do what you tell them to do. it might not be what you _actually_ wanted, but it'll be what you told it to do and if it goes off well that's your fault...
...and not the fault of fascists who built it to fuck you up.

They were my favorites also, especially the 9810 (the one in the middle), which I had previously encountered some 40 years ago, doing some surveying stuff during my military service, in a land far far away. It was obsolete even then, but as an HP calculator fan since my teen years, I was just blown away by this thing.Very nice to see it again.
I wish there was more HP stuff at VCFPNW. Guess I need to bring some of mine next year!

I did a crash trip to Seattle to go to #vcfpnw. It is in a location at least twice as large as the interim festivals, and yet still too damn small.
This seems like a good problem to have. Between this and the size of #rmrrf a few weeks ago, I'm feeling pretty positive about the state of makers right now.

Say hello to the NEC APC. It's an 8086-based computer that runs CP/M-86 & MS-DOS - yes, there were computers with 8" floppy drives that ran MS-DOS. It has a gorgeous 12" green CRT with (for 1982) phenomenal 640x494 graphics. #RetroComputing

Meet the Sharp X68000 Super HD. It's powered by a 10MHz 68000, 2MB RAM, and a SCSI hard drive (that's been replaced by a BlueSCSI emulator running off an SD card). It shared technology with arcade machines of the late 1980s so it has numerous stellar arcade ports to play. #RetroComputing
