  2. Dinner came to an end, and several of the assembled knights opened up their refurbished Psions and Apple Newtons to commence the evening's jestposting.

Our Lady Joan Mastodon finished her bowl of rhubarb crumble (she loved rhubarb crumble and always took seconds), then she spoke:

Remember, my friends, we toot for The Now. Don't toot for the archives. There's no chisel and marble in the Fediverse, my friends, only our frail temporary voices, heard in the moment, then forgotten. Jest away. And thank you, Sir Alfred, for tonight's rhubarb crumble. It was very good. You've surpassed yourself.

  7. The #AppleNewton platform has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, ethernet, and cellular capability. Agreed, it did not have these things when it launched (and barely had them when it was unfortunately “Steved” five years later) … but you can use all of these technologies now … with a nearly thirty year old device.

  8. Searching for a camera battery charger, might as well peek in the small computing friends tub #applenewton #messagepad

  9. This image from today’s VCF event illustrates the intersection of computing devices with rainbow Apple logos and computing devices that run on AA batteries.

  10. I've suggested a #retroComputing BoF for tomorrow at #oggcamp2026 based on the interest of people stopping me to ask about the #appleNewton I'm note taking on today.

  11. Here’s a little tidbit from my #AppleNewton collection.

    (As requested by @haineux, @stack, and @Eggfreckles)

This is a Newton “Dummy” Product for use as part of retail display.

I’ve had this item for years and thought I’d photographed it, but the box had never been opened.

  18. It’s times like this that require me to remind people that there’s a variation of Bad Apple playing on an #AppleNewton device.

  19. @AncTreat5358 Speaking from over three decades of experience, the #AppleNewton is still beloved, supported, and being developed for. Check out the mailing list and see.

  20. @tantramar @harold If I had built this database, it wouldn’t be nearly as big of a challenge. This is a mostly German language database of #AppleNewton resources created by Apple GmbH in 1995. Password protected, of course.

  21. Thirty years ago today, Apple shipped Newton Press for Mac OS … “making it easy to take important documents from their Mac OS-based personal computer with them on their Newton PDA.”

  22. Update: I found it!

Attention #AppleNewton users … does anyone happen to have a copy of Enfour’s Japanese Newton Language Kit (NLK)?

It was made available to #MessagePad owners running the Japanese version of #NewtonOS.

Not sure if was a download of on CD. Even an exported copy of the packages would suffice.

    Boosts welcome.

  23. This may be a long shot, but I’m looking to get in contact with Jeremy Templer who wrote the “Newton Assist” column that appeared in Macworld Australia.

He was a partner with SureFire Search Marketing based in New Zealand, but that company was shuttered in 2024.

Any tips or pointers would be appreciated.

“… a new standard for integration between PDAs and personal computers.”
