  1. Played about 90 mintues of #VanguardSOH yesterday over on the in-progress emulator. It was pretty awesome questing around Khal, and then taking a break to work on leveling up Artificer. I recreated my cleric to do all this, and it just felt “right”.

I wish the game would've survived and that it wasn't the jumbled mess it was in the code.

In an attempt to not be stuck in the past, later yesterday night I played some #Pantheon. It still doesn't quite feel the same, but I will keep trying.

  2. Going through and removing all of my art work from DeviantART has been a trip down memory lane.. Back when forums were all the rage, I created a bunch of #EQ2 & #VanguardSOH signatures for folks, and had completely forgotten about them.

  3. @Tipa Thanks for sharing! I appreciate your fair look at the game, and it is keeping me in the "don't get _too_ hyped just yet" mindset.

I had a fun time back in the day in #VanguardSOH. And I feel like I'm looking to recreate that. But times have changed for me personally and I'm curious to see how #Pantheon handles smaller chunks of more solo-ish playtime.

  4. @belghast @scopique @Gazimoff Again I’ll shout out to #VanguardSOH which had group harvesting. It was pretty awesome. Increased yields the more people were hitting nodes together.

  5. @Tipa @massivelyop Yeah, same. I’m looking forward to #Pantheon. But every time I read an article about it, I remind myself how I got completely sucked into the #VanguardSOH hype machine and was super burned by how much of a disaster it was at launch (less so as time went on IMO).

  6. @massivelyop Diplomacy gets most of the innovative talk from #VanguardSOH (and it is well deserved). But I wish people wouldn’t sleep on crafting either. It was a pretty awesome system, with separate gearing, stats, and leveling. And the process of crafting something was an engaging activity dealing with reactions to complications, and having the correct type and amount of ingredients.

I’m hoping that this gets channelled into Pantheon’s crafting.

  7. @massivelyop Yeah, I think we’re all on board with maintenance mode. Even as dismal of a state that it’s in, we can still play #RiftGame, unlike #Wildstar and #VanguardSOH, where we waiting on emu projects.

I will say the case for sunsetting at least helps remove some of the melancholy associated with seeing these dead games and remembering when they used to be packed. As opposed to just having memories of what a sunsetted game once was but not experiencing the emptiness.

  8. @Tipa @massivelyop For me, the deciding factor for me will be the proximity of feel to Vanguard. I didn't play EQ the first time around (was a UO player), and I never have been able to get EQ2 to stick.

But I loved (and hated) Vanguard and am hoping that Pantheon "feels" like it's in the same ballpark.

And each year it's delayed, my kids are a bit older, and I have that much more free time.

    #VanguardSOH #Pantheon #EverQuest #Everquest2

  9. @massivelyop Hot take: Daybreak goes back to its SOE roots and buys Trove and Rift and saves a near death MMO. Just as long as Rift isn't playing the part of Vanguard in this scenario.

    #Daybreak #RiftGame #VanguardSOH

  10. @massivelyop *sigh* each time they post videos with actual gameplay footage, or these pretty looking screenshots, I have to continue to remind myself to "don't believe the hype".

Yes, I will try Pantheon, if only for the hope of recreating the fun and "spirit of the game" from #VanguardSoH. But I'm not going to be a true believer that this is the next coming, also based on the massive disappointment that was Vanguard at launch.

  11. I just played about 4 hours of #EmbersAdrift and boy what a positive experience. There were points where I felt like I was in #VanguardSOH all over again.

My thoughts feel like they need a decent write up.
