Dear #DH2026 presenters, using AI to assist in slides preparation is OK, but remember that the default templates are terrible and nobody in the room will be able to read that small text.

Those North of Europe windows are maxxed for light (and people peeking inside, I was told) I don't care much for light, or at least all the time: cardboard curtains painted white. Houses in the summer, in southern Europe are basically in obscurity in the hot hours (i miss wooden blinds), so that you can exist and rest before going back to activity in the evening.
But the North of Europe (and elsewheres) is wet, things get mouldy if you don't ventilate, and you need to ventilate anyway.
Ventilate and let light through early in the morning when it is fresh and you also get the bonus of less noise and less polen/dust in the air.
Ventilating, both winter and summer, works better in vigorous short batches. Keeping a window semiopen all the time will do temperature havock, and get polen, noise and dust in.
If you get sensory overflow often you may also feel better keeping the house in obscurity. You might not even have noticed this.

If you ever have a romantic partner who pressures you into deeper levels of commitment, and acts hurt if you don't want to move so quickly or don't want to commit at all... just like, that's his problem. He can go to a therapist or whatever. If he needs commitment because he's looking for security or a certain family structure or whatever, then he can break up with you and find someone more into that.
Me taking the last name "Lindsey" for him as my pen name, and then plastering it all over my professional brand, that's a specter that has damaged my career and followed me a decade after leaving him.
I did that because he pressured me into agreeing to an engagement, when I had repeatedly said I hated weddings, and I never, ever wanted to be married again.
And while we never did get married after a couple of years of engagement, he reminded me frequently how hurt he was that I continually postponed wedding plans. Yet would not engage with me about my doubts over relationship issues.
His name is on my work. Many of the publishing platforms will not let me change my name in the listing. Reader are confused at my multiple bylines. I've had to mess with domain redirects that don't work anymore.
Just, if someone wants you to commit and gets hurt by your hesitation, that's a them problem. They need to work on it, not you. You're just fine.

If during the first act a mutable datum is constructed,
by the last act it should be duly modified.
(Following Chekhov out of context.)Seriously: use immutable data as much as you can.

Why unsolicited advice is often unwelcome:
1. feels like criticism:
The advice often implies the recipient is incapable of handling the situation or lacks the necessary knowledge.2. undermines autonomy:
Giving advice without being asked can suggest a lack of faith in the person's ability to make their own choices.3 intrusive:
It can feel like someone is "butting into your business".4. may stem from the giver's discomfort:
The person giving advice might be trying to relieve their own stress or a desire to feel needed, rather than focusing on the recipient's actual needs.
5. bypasses active listening:
Advice-givers might not fully understand the situation because they are busy formulating their own solutions. -
Some people can't help giving "advice" IRL or online. Know anyone like that? Imagine walking up to someone at work (you don't know them and vice versa but you're giving UA / Unsolicited Advice).
IMHO: CRINGE.

Unsolicited advice is advice, feedback, or suggestions that were not requested by the recipient. It can often feel critical, judgmental, or intrusive and may undermine a person's sense of competence and autonomy. While often given with good intentions, #unsolicitedadvice can damage relationships, cause stress, and hinder a person's ability to solve their own problems.
A more supportive approach involves active listening, expressing empathy, and asking for permission before offering input.

@daniel With that amount of RAM you might consider changing the zram algorithm to zstd and/or increasing the swap size. #unsolicitedadvice

@scattapilla I can't do eyeliner either, and I've been trying for 30 years. I use an angled eyeliner brush and apply eyeshadow directly to the lash line. Looks more subtle but also more forgiving with wonky application, no smudges and streaks, and you can get some great colors that way. A moist brush will give a deeper color with more staying power. #UnsolicitedAdvice

Advice can get you into more trouble than a gun can.

I wish something like #UnsolicitedAdvice would take off for a hashtag, for those "not enjoying the rise of fascism? Do <bunch of things a bunch of people would love to have the ability to do>" toots which people love to make.
I would just like to be able to stick them behind a CW and choose when to see them. -
unsolicited advice: memorize phone numbers of a few people (with good contacts) who will actually help you if something unusual happens to you (usually that ain't your momma) #resist #safetyfirst #unsolicitedadvice #uspol #SorryMom

@jcrabapple @austincnunn I wish Vans (and Chucks) fit me. I’ve got oddly square feet lol.
I did find these a few years ago and love them. Not quite a skate shoe but they look good and wear great. https://xeroshoes.com/shop/shoes/dillon-canvas-men/

In this, as in many other situations,
I see a lot of people imply that there are universal rules, or universal ethics
(which end up just as universal as they get inside a specific subculture or city etc)..
The abhorrance on unsolicited advice sp. if done by individuals a special combination of gender identity and sex, became a thing and a cultural mark in difference instances of queer culture. And a lot of people consider it an "obvious ethic rule".
But not.
It is individual as pronouns, gender, implicit consent preference. Not obvious by the person moving in certain contexts. Don't assume.
Diversity exists also about the methods + tools used to navigate the world + build our safety and happiness.
starting fire wars if a cis dude gives unsolicited advice but not with other people signalizes that some ppl can get away with breaking etikete and rules and it was never about the rule anyway.
A mindfuck.
Think about it.

VERY COOL #unsolicitedAdvice from @mehdihasan for Kamala Harris and the Democrats on getting the job done -- that being, at least as I see it, the conquest of overt Fascism and Feudalism, rather than ushering them in, meekly or grandly, at every F'ing opportunity to do anything at all.
I love this guy.

Do you use fabric softener sheets? They can leave a coating on the dryness sensors. Hit 'em with an alcohol wipe and the "3" setting might work again

#Parenting
#Yelling
#AngerBeing retired I get more time with friends of all stripes. Something has recently really stood out to me.
All of my male buddies adulate their fathers, but the ones who had fathers that shouted or otherwise bullied them all have issues because of it.
College guys I know, blue collar guys I know.
Try to not yell at children. It harms them. Parenting lasts your child’s full lifetime. Everything you do counts.
