  1. This could definitely be chalked up to a #FirstWorldProblem but I find myself a bit annoyed with #NLS this evening. They seem to be getting a bit sloppy in some ways. First, they apppear to have stopped putting #Braille labels on the outside cover of the books they send out in the on-demand program, which makes it difficult to identify which book it is without removing it from the bookshelf. Also, I’m reading Harper’s magazine in Braille, and in this particular volume Braille errors abount, like three or four per page. And I can’t even blame #UEB for it, it’s just random dots where they shouldn’t be. I thought they had proofreaders? Sigh…

  2. Unified English Braille (UEB) simplifies reading by using one Braille system for both everyday and technical content, no code switching needed. It makes learning and reading Braille more efficient for students and readers worldwide.

  6. @NoahCarver I often ask myself this question, particularly when I run across abominations that #UEB have foisted on us. My favorite (not) is chemotherapy, which now looks like che mother apy.

  7. I've been adding more symbols to our company's internal #Braille translator, and I'm again reminded of why I dislike #UEB so much. In this case, the official documentation doesn't list dot patterns for advanced mathematical concepts, like shapes, angle measures, congruence, etc. It took much more web searching to find these than it should have.

  8. @plars Thanks Paul! I found a lot of resources at BANA, ICEB and RNIB. I see a lot of .brf files, which will be great when I figure out how to read BRF files on my Braille eReader. I was hoping to find a text document though, something that would have a table with the symbol in one column and the corresponding braille dots in the other. A trivial example would be something like . (period) is dots 2, 5,6. If you hear of anything let me know, but I'll keep looking. #Braille #UEB

  9. @devinprater That would most likely have to be a post-processing step after the pandoc conversion. Also, as a proofreader, I don't trust computer translation, even with #UEB. If something looks weird in an EPUB, you can at least expand to computer braille at the cursor and get an unambiguous representation.

  10. @MissA94 @silly_singer @lynnskyi @angelgirl1976 I hate #UEB with the strength of ten thousand suns! Some of the changes seem really arbitrary and unnecessary. The one that gives Sarah and I the biggest belly laugh is vche mother apy. Just why?

  11. @kev @TheQuinbox I use them on the pc. Trying to find what I want, in the emoji picker, is clunky. Maybe it's just a matter of practice? Doing the emoticons, on this phone, is difficult for me. Need to learn more #ueb Maybe I can set this #bsi to the old Computer Braille?
