I just emailed my local Talking Book Library asking for the information on the specific BRF formats used for #NLS #BARD Braille books and magazines. I will test the answer I receive and share my results as soon as I am confident I fully understand how they can be converted and used. #Monarch

Does anyone out here know the exact formatting of #NLS #Braille books? I'm trying to convert one to eBraille using the tool by #APH but everything I've tried just results in this river of two spaces down the left side with initial characters being cut off the beginning of lines. #Monarch

So I decided to try bringing back my kid night-time reading experience with the #Monarch which didn't quite work out as well as expected. Turns out Monarch is larger and heavier than the hard-backed #Braille books of old. I also discovered that #NLS BRF files don't read very smoothly, perhaps because they have 40 cells per line.

Does anyone out here know in to which folder I must save files on my #Monarch so that VictorReader can find them? I'm transferring some #NLS Braille books.

"The #OpenLibraryOfHumanities is pleased to announce the launch of a new diamond open access journal in linguistics, following the resignation of the editorial team of Natural Language Semantics (#NLS) from #SpringerNature. The editors are launching a new journal, Semantics of Natural Languages , with the Open Library of Humanities.

"The editorial team’s resignation follows ongoing concerns about Springer Nature putting pressure on editors to accept and publish more articles. Commercial publishers like Springer Nature are increasingly using this tactic to grow the revenue they receive for open access publishing via Article Processing Charges. The resigning editors have the support of the editorial board of Natural Language Semantics, including the original founders of that journal, which was established in 1993 and has long been recognised as one of the leading journals in formal semantics and theoretical linguistics.

"Semantics of Natural Languages is launched at OLH as the intellectual heir to Natural Language Semantics, which was originally published by Kluwer Academic Publishers before its acquisition by Springer in 2003. Semantics of Natural Languages is a linguistics journal dedicated to the study of meaning in natural languages, with a particular focus on the relation between meaning and linguistic structure. While the journal is firmly grounded in semantics, it welcomes contributions that draw on insights from related fields such as #logic, #PhilosophyOfLanguage, #psycholinguistics and cognition, #typology and the core domains of #linguistics — provided the work is specifically directed toward linguists and advances our understanding of semantics.

"OLH’s Executive Director, Professor Caroline Edwards, said of the move: 'It’s fantastic to be supporting another research community to regain editorial control of its journal and leave Springer Nature. Der Besuch beim #24hnbr war wieder großartig. Aber ganz ehrlich? 400000 Zuschauer sind zu viel. Es war deutlich rüpelhafter und weniger gelassen als die letzten Jahre, es sind deutlich mehr Menschen deutlich früher mit dem Konsum von Alkohol und Cannabis über die Stränge geschlagen... Gerade die Startphase war einfach heftig. Ich werde mich wohl in Richtung #NLS orientieren bis der Hype um Verstappen abgeflaut ist.

Well, that’s it. Game’s over. That was miserable.

Is anyone else using the #NLS #EReader #Braille display having problems where bookshare crashes after I try to log in? Because it crashes, then won't load at all after I restart the app.

@NicksWorld @DavidGoldfield To be completely fair, I don’t think #NLS and #BARD were involved in the library grant cancellations, though I seem to remember reading that some of the state libraries could have been impacted. Good thing the cancellations got reversed in any event, though.
