  6. We are often quick to complain, and we can often be right to do so. But occasionally try to be as quick to offer a compliment. It can be much more rewarding to know you have probably cheered someone up a little bit.

  14. Very sad to hear the news of Mike Hodges’s death. Seeing Get Carter at the #TynesideCinema with Mike doing a Q&A and, particularly, reminiscing on chaperoning Michael Caine in early-70s #Newcastle remains a highlight of my time in the #NorthEast

  17. Sometimes a film I've loved in the past doesn't quite hold up - but rather chuffed how much I still enjoyed The Thin Man (1934) this evening (must be 15+ years since I last saw it) - maybe loved it even more than before. Such an adorable cast. Nice to see it on the big screen too!

  21. On a bit of an accidental Dashiell Hammett binge lately - have recently watched (the apparently mostly/entirely ficitious) Julia (1977) in which 'Dash' was played by Jason Robards, and (the stagey and overdone, but fascinating) Watch on The Rhine (1943) written by Hammett based on a work by Lillian Hellman. We're off to see The Thin Man (1934) based on Hammett's novel this afternoon at the #TynesideCinema. Haven't seen it for years. #OldMovies #ClassicCinema #DashiellHammett
