Was ich am #TwitterMeltdown halt auch so schade finde: dass sich das Netz von dort jetzt zerfasert und sich auf verschiedene Alternativen verteilt. Die "Twitter-Community" mit dem Twitter-Schmäh und den typischen Twitter-Diskussionen wird's genauso wie Prä-Musk nie wieder geben. Ich vermiss das alles schon, weil ich hab mich dort digital Daheim gefühlt. Aber im Leben hat halt leider nix ewig Bestand und Veränderungen bringen zum Glück auch neue Chancen.

A big shout out to those arriving or coming back in the current wave of #TwitterMigration thanks to the latest #TwitterMeltdown . Things will feel similar but different. Feel free to ask questions of us #fediverse old hats. We have some tools you didn't see on other places, like Spoiler/Content Warning titles so you can do things like talk about the latest episode of a TV show without worrying about people being pissed since they didn't see it yet. We make it easy to add ALT text to photos for people who need it. It takes a bit more work to get your stream started, by doing things like searching on and following hashtags and then following accounts you see using them. Once you do you are guaranteed to never have some black box algorithm shoveling crap posts at you for extra clicks. You have total control over your experience here because this isn't about milking you and your content dry for dollars. It's a network built and run for the users by the users not some VC investors and their techbro operators with delusions of grandeur. -

For those of you fresh here from the #twittermeltdown, here are a couple of tips.
Find like minded people and follow them. Include FediTips - @feditips
Hashtags mean more here than on Twitter. Search for hashtags on your favourite subjects and follow them for a useful timeline.
Writing an Introduction about yourself and pinning it to your profile. Include hashtags of the subjects that interest you so like minded people can find and follow you.
Enjoy the lack of throttling.

Apparently *even if you have paid* $8/mo for what Elon laughably calls "verified" status, you still only get to see 6000 tweets a day!
Granted, that's probably enough to satisfy most people. My back-of-envelope math figures that's about 5 solid hours of looking at tweets (3 seconds per tweet). But still, some die-hards will go past that!

I understand the ex-Twitter employees who took the severance-pay deal (rather than prove how "hardcore" they were by overworking themselves) are not seeing their severance checks, either. I feel sorry for them, and I hope the California and even federal departments of labor are rectifying that situation.
