Seems like TubeSync is having problems to download videos lately... But I resist to surrender an identifiable cookie to youtube.

Jellyfin Web

I ditched my Youtube Premium subscription and started using TubeSync instead. Now I have my subscriptions showing up in Jellyfin, where I can watch them without Le Algorithm watching me or trying to persuade me to watch other thngs.
An additional upside is automatic integration with Sponsorblock, so all big-name videos come down freed of several minutes of sponsorship malarky.

The #tubesync update does not fix the cleanup issue.
Looking through some of the commentary on it, it appears the dev is creating their own queue mechanism rather leaning on something that already exists. And is moving code around to try to deal with issues with this task scheduler. Which is what created this defect apparently.
I almost want to try my own hand at building something like this…

Just found there’s a #tubesync docker image update so going to hit that first and see if the behavior changes.

I seem to have run into a bug with #tubesync and it appears to be a known bug. Setting a retention limit is meaningless and it fails to clean up the media.
My storage usage was getting way higher than I was expecting so I wanted to cut down retention (it was a bit long anyway).
The dev doesn't seem to know how to fix this?
I'm going to take a look at Youtube-DL Material...

I now have 50 subscriptions set up. It’s not super fast chewing through all the work it has to do, but I kinda get it. Don’t want to anger the YT gods and get myself blocked!
Also figuring out tuning for how much content I want to actually get from the channels I subscribe to. It’s a lot of data to store! And I’m not even close to getting through all my subscriptions.
So yeah, more to do still.
-
@jeff Unfortunately, no.
It’s just a frontend to yt-dlp and #ffmpeg. I use the web interface to point a “subscription” to a channel with some parameters and it downloads the video and metadata to a directory, where I then point #Jellyfin. I have an addon in Jellyfin to load the #Youtube metadata so it shows correctly.
So nothing for content discovery there.
I’ll have to figure that one out at some point.

I’ve been playing with #TubeSync a bit. It…mostly works. It can’t handle a #Youtube channel with a huge video backlog very well.
The #Tested channel is a really good example. It apparently has over 5000 videos (channel shows 6.5k, TubeSync shows about 5.7k).
Limiting it to 30 days, it still has to index the entire channel, building a massive index, which it struggles to handle.
Not sure if it’s a sqlite issue or a general app issue.

Alright Youtube, I get it. But I'm still not watching any more of your ads than I have to. I'm forced to sit through them on the Apple TV when my daughter is watching, but that's already incredibly painful.
All my channels are going straight into #plex...

Recently installed #tubesync after seeing #YouTube's anti #adblock popups.. I didn't want to lose my favourite channels, and wasn't about to buy premium, and so here we are :D
It's pretty great, very simple and does exactly what I need it to do. I'm using #plex as the media server to watch all the content it downloads. No ads and no banners. It also supports deleting old content after it's been dowloaded for X days, so I don't have to fill my drive with 1080/1440p of LinusTechTips from a year ago.
