Reached out to a thinktank that does good #China research while in #SEAsia for a meeting, and was surprised when they never responded.

Saw yesterday them post about a meeting with the #Chinese embassy, and now wondering - is that why?

#Gig #workers are playing a central role in #Indonesia's #protests. It's no accident - there's been innovative, grassroots organizing taking place in the sector for years.

In fact, I wrote about this a few months ago

Really sad news from #Myanmar. Ma Wutt Yee Aung sounds like a true hero. We've lost another bright, young leader, someone we should have empowered and elevated, not ignored and allowed an oppresive regime to murder.

Pitched an #Indonesia piece and got rejected because the publication...has an article coming out on a related topic on #Vietnam. 🙄

This is why coverage of #SEAsia sucks in the west. #tootsSEA

Attended a press conference in #Japan where one speaker spoke about energy policy in #ASEAN and, not even once, named a single country in the region, treating it as monolithic bloc, not as diverse separate countries with wildly contrasting policies and plans.

Especially bizarre as essentially no energy policy coordination at the ASEAN level.

Part of a larger trend, as I feel like I hear more about ASEAN in Japan than I ever did when living in #SoutheastAsia.
