Went to see the Super Furry Animals at Brixton Academy.
Missed this band over the last, what, 15 years since they last played?
Banger after banger. One of those bass rumbles felt like the building was shaking, earthquake alerts.
The classic SFA song has some sweet jangly guitar tune going on then two verses in you feel something weird and electronic in the beat and then the wall of noise and beeps and booms hits you in the face. Love it.
Power-ranger helmet, furry suits, flashing lights and strange cartoon alien creatures on the backdrop.
Ending with that first song they ever wrote together, as they almost always did. The Man Don't Give A Fuck is a masterpiece and that beepy boomy wall of noise is different every time. Whole room bouncing up and down shouting that they don't give a fuck about anybody else you know they don't give a fuck about anybody else you know.
No encores. Ever. If you have a finale like that why would you? Prompt finish and out. Staff must love it. Everyone hanging on to that last second then moving on at once instead of hanging around unsure if anyone's gonna play again.
Looking forward to doing it again outdoors at Beautiful Days.

I used to take pictures or record videos during gigs and concerts. But honestly, I rarely end up watching them after. I realized that years ago, but still, I tried to catch a single memorable moment for 20 secs with my phone for my live reviews in my blog. For an audiovisual support. But I definitely prefer just text right now.
Now I don't record or take pics in concerts. For me it is just nonesense. I still thank everybody who record gigs entirely and upoload their videos on youtube, for everyone who couldn't go. That's generous and great. The rest of the people... well, they make me not want to go to concerts anymore.

Stop the press! An extra May gig snuck in for tomorrow night at The Three Golden Cups in Southerndown with The Midnight Fiddle Band 🎻
Then it's more fantastic folk with Isembard's Wheel, thankfully more than once every hundred years, at Hotel Brigadoon Pontypridd.
The Occasional Domestics then reappear for the Gower Cheese & Cider Festival at Gower Heritage Centre, at 1pm on the Saturday, where I'll also jump up with Plastic Sam's Stargazer in the evening.

An artist based in Thiers (63), Ernest Bergez, aka Sourdure, has been exploring the boundaries of distant sound worlds for the past ten years, combining a spirit of experimentation with a personal, hand-crafted approach to traditional musical objects. Hybrid and exploratory, Sourdure‘s music reveals itself in many facets: baroque inventions on traditional canvas, vociferous carnivalesque odes, stylistic borrowings from oriental music, sonic orfevrery marked by concrete music… Combined with the acoustic rusticity of the violin or the dotar (a Central Asian lute), electronics do their alchemical work, disturbing sound objects, altering perceptions and the course of time.
Whether exalted or bittersweet, the vocals borrow from the voices of classical Arabic, Turkish or Persian music. The Occitan language of Auvergne takes centre stage, deploying its metaphorical and polysemous mesh to express the common, the intimate and the sacred. The melody is born from the word, the poem gives birth to the song, in a form that could be distantly reminiscent of trobar, the art of the troubadours. A one-man orchestra, a single man playing from a universe of orchestras, Sourdure sings like the nose on your face.

Awesome, there's a well-lit corner with a leather armchair at the #gig venue. I can read my book about early video games between bands! I don't know anyone here anyway, and the noise level makes conversation a chore.
Prog metal is such an uncool genre anyway, so I don't even feel like a nerd.

Today is our official album release #gig, at the Fiddler's Elbow, so here's today's board.
The Simplifier had a great debut on Friday, hope it will continue to simplify tonight. I also used the Klinger Mk1 for anything high gain. Sounds great, but the switch sits fairly high, and it is a tall pedal, so there were a few miss-steps. Need to be more careful today.
I also put on the Maxon in place of the Riot, just to have something sounding slightly different than a modded Marshall.
