today's tiny ecosystem is a towering azolla forest that lives in a bucket of water.
azolla is an aquatic fern. on the #farm, it can be used as green mulch & as supplemental animal feed.
it can take over a pond, so i keep dedicated azolla buckets where it can form a 3D mat that can even climb the sides of the bucket!
it can multiply very quickly from even a few pieces. it seems to prefer shade.

...OMG ecosystem disruption!!! i just walked past the pineapple and a gold dust day gecko has usurped the anole's spot!! (the geckos are larger & meatier than the anoles, so it probably chased the other one away.)
i wonder if the anole will return or if the gecko will now be the leaf sitter?! things are so dramatic in nature.

here's mine for today: this green anole lizard sits on this exact pineapple leaf basically every day. it hunts lil flies that are attracted to a purple basil plant (whose little flowers are in the foreground).
there's a tiny circle of life b/w 1 leaf of a pineapple, 1 lizard, little flies, & 1 basil plant. 🤯
