Rebalanced and streamlined a lot of my cards in Crop Rotation this week. This involved looking at spreadsheet for 3 whole days and reimplementing all of them in 2. Still missing a few of them but they are mostly done :)

Launch date is set to be September at the moment, so I have 1 month to clean things up.

Goal is to get everything ready by end of July and have 1 month buffer to fix bug and balance things :)

    🤞

  2. This week on #ThinGsIFinished #soloDev #indieDev #gameDev #indieGame

This week is #steamnextfest and my game is participating !🎉.

Other than that, I started working on the full game. I am still deciding on my launch date, probably August ? This time I really want to make sure that everything is right before launching, not like last year.

If you haven't check out Crop Rotation, you can find it here

  3. This week on #ThinGsIFinished #soloDev #indieDev #gameDev #indiegame

This week I finally started work on the rest of the content for my game.

Finished the unlocking system of my game. Starting work on a rating system for my game where the difficulty will scale up as the players wins.

Most of the key systems are in. After this, it will just be adding in more cards !!! Target is to hit like 100 cards in total.

Also, someone showcase my nextfest demo on youtube which makes my day :).

  4. This week on #ThinGsIFinished #soloDev #indieDev #gameDev #indiegame

A bit late for my post this week :)

Worked on my demo again. I thought I wrapped it up but I got few feedback that I need to change :)

The demo is ready on Steam here store.steampowered.com/app/234.

I also started working on a mutation system for the game, which will make the mid game / end game more interesting :D. It is almost ready, so I can prototype it next week.

  5. This week on #ThinGsIFinished #soloDev #indieDev #gameDev #indiegame

Still working on Crop Rotation's Demo for steam nextfest, you can find the web demo here
    zwodahs.itch.io/crop-rotation.

Most of the important features are in done, just trying to find the right balance between find and interesting decision.

Next week should be able to start work on the full game :), hoping to launch by early August.

  6. This week on #ThinGsIFinished #soloDev #indieDev #gameDev

Another week of cleaning up the demo :). 99% done with demo.

In total, I played about 5 rounds of the game this week. The balance still feels a bit off but is definitely fun.

The text in the game still need to be proof-read, and I will need to add a trailer for my game on Steam.

After that, I will be able to freeze my demo and continue to finish the game :).

    Try it here zwodahs.itch.io/crop-rotation

  7. This week on #ThinGsIFinished #soloDev #indieDev #gameDev

Another week of grinding through my TODO list to get my demo ready for SteamNext.

I am like 95% there :) and if nothing goes wrong, I will have a build by Sunday.

  8. This week on #ThinGsIFinished #soloDev #indieDev #gameDev

The key focus for me this week is to finish the last 2 big items for steam Nextfest - Compendium and Tutorial.

They were more or less done previously, but I had to rework it since a lot of things has changed since then.

I thought I would take until Sunday to finish but I managed to get it done just minutes ago YAY.

I am still on track with demo by end of month, a few weeks before Steam NextFest. 🎉

  9. This week on #ThinGsIFinished #soloDev #indieDev #gameDev

Participated in the #ludumDare last weekend. I haven't play any game yet, probably have to play them this week :)

Continue to work on Crop Rotation this week :). Trying to finish the polishing of the UI and stuffs by mid of this month, so that I can add in the rest of the content.

Added tons of animations to the game to makes it feel more lively. Also redo tons of screens to fit the new UI. Overall a long week.

  10. This week on #ThinGsIFinished #soloDev #indieDev #gameDev

Long week for me this week. I am almost done with updating the UI/theme of my game.

Also started work on the menuscreen and other screens of the game.

It is also ludumdare this week and I made a promise to myself to participate in all of them.

In preparation of LD, I updated my core library and template project.

Participating in LD while rushing a project for Steam Next Fest, what could possibly go wrong :D

  11. This week on #ThinGsIFinished #soloDev #gameDev #indieDev

This week I map out the roadmap towards my steamfest demo in June.

This means more polishing, and cleaning up the UI and also finalising the content for the demo build.

Then I suddenly had an idea to retheme the UI of the game to make it look like a computer. :D

Kind of like how the mock up looks and will be spending the next few days putting into the game.

Might end up removing it but we will see :)

  12. This week on #ThinGsIFinished #gameDev #soloDev #indieDev

One key problem my game have is that cards don't feel impactful and the player can get through the game once they have their build.

The game also feels longer than I want it.

Key changes this week is to rework the session length, making each run shorter.

I also added a mission system that allow you to earn other types of cards :)

Also started working on the new set of cards. Hopefully I am still on track for June launch.

  13. This week on #ThinGsIFinished #gameDev #soloDev #indieDev

Had a call with a game consultant. He did a video recording of my game and had a chat with me on the game.

Tons of good feedback on UIUX and game design, pointed out a few problems with the game and definitely helped with figuring out what the game wants to be and where it can head toward.

A lot of food for thoughts. I only have 2 months to do it before SteamNextFest, so it is going to be a grind for the next 2 months :)

  14. This week on #ThinGsIFinished #gameDev #soloDev #indieDev

This week i finished up the save/load function of my game. Technically it was already implemented as I needed it to work to run my test cases. Just needed to hook it up to the menu etc.

I also work up a Compendium for my game to show all the cards available in the game.

I started working toward the full release, which is always exciting :)

    Play the prototype at

  15. This week on #ThinGsIFinished #gameDev #soloDev #indieDev

For some reason, this week feels like a longer week than usual.

Made tons of changes to the UI/UX of the game to make it easier to understand what is going on.

I also started work on adding new content to the game :). This will probably take longer than expected as I need to re do some of the ways I handle things. Lucky for me, I have test cases :)

    Check out the demo at
    zwodahs.itch.io/crop-rotation

  16. This week on #ThinGsIFinished #gameDev #soloDev #indieDev

Firstly, I added a few more QOL features to my demo.

I also create the demo on steam and pushed a build :). So far there is about 2k activation. Weirdly, people are activating without playing, so probably bots ?

I also spend the rest of the week refactoring, preparing for the next bulk of the features.

    Check out the game

    Cheers !

  17. This week on #ThinGsIFinished #gameDev #indieDev #soloDev

Firstly, Steam page for my next game is approved !! The main goal is to be in time for SteamNextFest.

There is also 2 new builds this week :), one yesterday and one today.

    0.1.1 is live on zwodahs.itch.io/crop-rotation.

The main changes this week is a tutorial for the game, which allows more people to try the game.

If you like Luck be a landlord, do try out the game. :) I am also looking for feedbacks.

    That's all for now :)

  18. This week on #ThinGsIFinished #gameDev #soloDev #indieDev.

The goal for this week is to introduce cropset synergy.

Initially each crop only have 1 type and that kind of makes the game dull. I spend 1 to 1.5 days figuring out how to add more types to the game and that turns out well.

I also spend another day coming up with all the cards in the "base set". Sadly that delayed me quite a bit and there isn't a build this week, so here is a screenshot.

Follow me or join my discord for updates. :)

  19. This week on #ThinGsIFinished #gameDev #indieDev #soloDev

I finished up the new build for my next game yesterday, reworking a few core mechanics.

The direction feels better now and I can start adding the other systems.

The next build will be more exciting as I will be putting in the "Synergy" mechanic, similar to the set mechanics in many auto battlers.

This will definitely make the drafting more interesting.

  20. #ThinGsIFinished #devlog

This week on #gameDev #indieDev #soloDev. I finish my rework of the key mechanic in the prototype for my next game.

You can find the game here zwodahs.itch.io/crop-rotation.

Looking for feedbacks on the game. Something is still off in this version. If you do try it out, let me know.

I also have a discord where I develop the game openly :). Join if Interested.

  21. Another week another #ThinGsIFinished #gameDev #soloDev #indevDev

I finally finished my prototype for Crop Rotation. After playing with it for a couple of hours, I soon realised some issue with the game.

Honestly, I already feel that it is too complex during the game jam and it is hard to understand what is going on. I thought it was UI/UX problem but turns out it is not.

I like the core concept, and I have a few ideas to fix the problem :)

    See🧵for more analysis.

  22. #ThinGsIFinished #soloDev

This week, I wrote tons of tests for all my cards and started polishing the UI. I think I got a bit burned out from doing all the UI.

Instead of finishing the UI polish, I went back to my previous game and started adding content lol ... Probably not the best idea if I want to make money to sustain my #gameDev #indieDev 🤷‍♂️

I really want to add more content to my previous game but sales don't justify it. Anyone have the same problem ?

  23. Another Friday and it is time for #ThinGsIFinished.

Last week I started work on Crop Rotation, a drafting game. The next step is to get the game to a prototype phase after expanding from the #ludumdare version.

This week I finished up the test system and also saving and loading. I also added more cards to the game this week.

If nothing goes wrong, I will probably have a prototype version by end of next week.

    #gameDev #indieDev #soloDev

  24. #ThinGsIFinished #gameDev #indieDev #soloDev

This week is a weird week for me. I participated in #ldjam #ld52 #ludumdare over the weekend and made a Drafting game like Luck Be a Landlord.

    zwodahs.itch.io/ld-52-crop-rot

This is one of the ideas in my notebook and is one of the candidate for my next project.

Between this and my city builder deck builder, Crop Rotation has less unknown and also a shorter timeline.

So I made the hard decision to pivot to Crop Rotation first.

    Wish me Luck :)

  25. Another week, another post for #ThinGsIFinished. #gameDev #indieDev

Last week is a miss as I had to do some chores.

This week I continued with my work on the saving/loading of city deck builder and managed to finish it.

I also generalised my testing framework from my previous game and now I have one that should work ideally across all my future game :)

    Yay for writing less code.

Also this weekend is #ludumdare, so I clean up my code and prepared mentally for it :).

  26. #ThinGsIFinished #devlog #gameDev #indieDev
Didn't post last week as I took a week off :). This week is a slow week as I start to ramp up again after a break.

Back to "Card City" prototype and started working on my "saving/loading". It might sound weird to be working on saving when the core game loop is not finalised.

However the saving is necessary for me to write my test cases :) to speed up my development.

I am almost done with it, and I can do more game design next week :).

  27. #ThinGsIFinished #gameDev #indieDev

This week is a slower week for me but I still managed to finish up my prototype. Played around with the game and also shared it on my discord.

There are still some elements that is missing in the game to make it fun. I hope that I don't end up scraping the prototype. :/

  28. As a #gameDev/#indieDev, the best way to stay motivated is with a dev log. Time to post dev log on mastodon.

    #ThinGsIFinished (TGIF :D)
    - Finally finish all my assets for my game's prototype.
    - Started cleaning up and hooking up the various system for my game to get a full game loop prototype next week.

Feel free to use this as a thread for your own devlog :).
