  1. This is going to be good. If Matt Kennard's book 'Silent Coup' is anything to go by, this will be just as good. I highly recommwnd that and this already: The Racket - A rogue reporter vs the American Empire, by Matt Kennard

  2. @analgesicsleep ah Robert Ryan! Berlin Express is an interesting thriller—I like that, but we are most inclined toward RR in #TheRacket with Robert Mitchum, William Conrad, Lizbeth Scott, William Talman, Ray Collins. We very much liked that Nick’s violent enforcement was out of date for criminals like Don Porter who had moved into #realestate.

  3. That was a great little proto-noir. So glad it was saved from being lost forever. Also, really liked the playful score that Robert Israel and His Band did for it.

  4. Well that was pretty good! Not a bad gangster/corrupt cop flick at all. I totally see why Chicago banned it, lol. xD

  5. wondering if it's a completely different set for the same room now really. but that seems so unlikely.

  6. wow there's some value of cinemaphotography for you - how different that same room/set looks like when shot from the different angles, really surprising.

  7. Even today there's no 28th Precinct in Chicago. At the time, I imagine there would've been fewer. To, you know, give you an idea how far out this place is.

(And yet, again: multiple streetcar lines.)

  8. Note "hell and gone" has _multiple_ streetcar lines. The transit this country threw away, my gods.

  9. This police sargent could've been played by a mannequin and I'm a little wondering if he was xD

  10. A mean mugger in club full of fast dancers? How did the 1951 remake NOT have George Raft in it?

  11. This may have been made in 1928 but it seems to have A LOT in common with #PreCode era crime films
