Visited arzanà the other day. They collect and restore old wooden boats from the venetian lagoon. If you‘re interested in wooden boats and boat building, I‘d recommend a visit.

Right before we launched for this season. Waiting about a month after painting was not planned but was pretty good for the varnish. #theBoatyard #sailing

Testing the new tiller extension holder and the rails for the ladder in #theBoatyard .

A post documenting the installation of Pino's new water tank and galley cabinet ^^

Oh gosh, this project in #theBoatyard took all winter: I finally finished the cabin walls.
To do this, I had to remove the glue of the vinyl liner from the GRP, sand it, fair it, sand it again, paint primer and finally varnish it.
In the picture it looks spacious, but it was a real game of boat yoga, the-walls-are-lava and twister with the centerboard case.

We're casting off in just a few days, we'll be gone until october, a lot of the islands up north no longer allow vessels to fill up water due to drier summers, so we've installed an extra 110L tank aboard Pino. It'll be nice to have this extra safety.

The canvas aboard Pino is very old, thin and discolored, we've started replacing some of it.
A few days ago we replaced the flap that goes over the companionway doors. You can see the color difference between it and the fabric on the far-left side.
It was our first time putting in dome snaps ^^... (edit: 2nd time, i just forgot about the 1st ^^)

One week and two weekends prep. Finally the first coat down. I must say that I’m fine so far with the color and the varnish.

Hey #Boativerse ! Looking for a welder around E5 on the Lea for a small but critical job overplating the chimney hole in my roof, which is oversized, corroded, and preventing the install of a new wood burner. Thanks for any leads 🙌

Sicily, six years ago. Covid lockdown in effect. Our friend got trapped ashore, living on his boat atop a ladder, work unfinished and unable to launch, even if there had been a crane operator.
The boatyard workers gave him the key to the gate and told him they were shutting down until further notice, good luck and by the way there's no running water.
They left him "Merkel" the boatyard dog, too.

The most expensive dumbell in the world..
We've taken off the forestay yesterday, we'll take it all apart, have a new stay made and try to put the whole thing back together without breaking anything.
I'm so done going up the mast when its only partly stayed, it's harrowing af

Went to pick up our new backstay yesterday. Now the cable is swaged on both ends.
-
Just got back down from climbing the mast, we noticed a broken spoke in the backstay I made in New Zealand, we took it off and will make a new one next week, but damn, it's weird, clean cut.

cool, open source boat hardware? In this case a block? #theBoatyard #sailing

Its cold enough for icicles on the tarp. I don’t think that polyester would cure well … #theBoatYard

Todays tasks: Researching, Planning and preparing ahead so I can work without interruption when the temperatures are back over 15°C.
And well there is this large european boating retailer who had nice guides for their products. Had - because now they are very sloppy and stupid. My trust in them went instantly below zero.

While removing the tiller for the winter Dev & I found a cut in the backstay wiring.... :ohnobubble:
List of boat to-do's just keeps getting longer.

CW: Engine repair rant
Every year, thus far, there's an issue with our marine diesel engine that I have to troubleshoot. This year's issue was a raw water pump leak, but not just any kind, water was coming out of the weeping hole, indicating that the pump shaft seal was bad.
Getting the shaft out of the body of the pump was effing hard, I had to borrow tools to do it. After prying it apart, I thought that I could just take the seal out and replace it and that'd be it, but then I saw that the shaft was kinda scarred, and one of the bearings looked like shit >_>... aaaand I somehow broke a circlip and now 1/2 of it is stuck in the body of the pump(improvised a tool to get it out, that was a BAD idea...).
I was not expecting to have to rebuild this damn thing. Never. Effing. Easy.

End of the #sailing season and packing away the sails in #theBoatyard . Very sad that I couldn’t fly the epic spinnaker this season.

@bee Yep, most boat people rely on Facebook. My partner & I are always a bit out of the loop since we too don't use it, and refuse to use apps in general :P.
The only boat-related hashtag i use on Fedi is #theboatyard for boat projects.
Can point you to more boat people, but depends if you strictly prefer houseboat stuff (i know more sailboat/motor boat people). -
Found the most Merveilles way to commute: #foldingBike + #boat . How's that for #intermodal? :D
Apparently this is called #bikeRafting??

Also glued a piece of glass fiber over two other damaged areas. If that one sticks, we are golden. If it doesn’t, I’ll use the circular saw next. #theBoatyard #canoeRepair

I had a partial win using g-flex epoxy on the canoe. The only thing is that its way too expensive to fill that whole cavity.
Going to glue in a shest of foam instead. Lets see how that goes. #theBoatyard #canoeRepair
