  13. The most frustrating thing about IT is having to travel many miles for an emergency change someone raised.

    That emergency change? Plugging in a USB cable so people could print from the network printer till a software update is done early next year. A. Smegging. Cable!

    Today has been one of those days. Twice! Then people wander why IT Technicians are grumpy.

  14. Dear gods!

    We've been having issue imaging one particular laptop recently. Its brand new from Dell, and keeps failing at all three sites at various stages.

    Our infrastructure engineer who's looking into fixing this is literally vibe coding the problem. He's just said "I fed the logs to Co-Pilot and it says there's no errors and should build fine".

    My guy! If we wanted useless comments, we'd ask the wall! Fix the problem, don't make it worse!

  21. Busy day for Dodo today, I'm on site visits and have so far visited 3 stations. Dealing with a desktop I couldn't even log in to because the harddrive had 75Mb free space. There were user profiles dating back 2 ½ years! Over 1.2 million files, over 180Gb of wasted space.

    But Windows is "best for business" 🙄

    I'm so sick of middle management micro-managing things they don't understand!

    I just had two of my tickets merged because "it's the same thing". Mate, if it was the same thing on two separate tickets, do you *really* think I'd leave them in my queue when there was an easy stat?!

    Leave my queue alone and deal with the actual problems we're facing causing these tickets in the first place!!

  23. Our VPN issue I ranted about last month has started to rear its ugly head with people being knocked off and not being able to work from home.
    No Comms have gone out to users, it's not been tested on Windows 10 & 11, and we keep getting shot down being told that "it's fine".

    What really bugs me is that we have users who live the other side of the country to where our offices are, and the only way they'll get back on the VPN is to travel 100's miles. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    On one hand, he keeps talking. On the other hand, I get overtime.

    But he keeps asking me questions I can't answer. What do you call the end of the power adapter that plugs into the computer? How much would it cost to fix the letter `o` on the keyboard?

  27. Just had a really weird issue with a user's laptop: when we built it, we tested the camera using a website. Now, the user is getting a really weird issue whenever they use MSTeams. The check we did worked fine (still does). But for reasons known only to itself, teams doesn't use the camera, it uses the ambient light camera! So the picture is B&W and flickering. No obvious way of changing it. 🤷🏻‍♂️
