  1. I switched from to on for running . You can export/import the syncthing profile. Worked flawless for me.
Ofc this doesnt copy the settings for e.g. runtime conditions (trusted networks, charging, ...).

  4. here is how to pause updates of Syncthing-Fork from F-Droid until the situation becomes clearer

based on code reviews done by people in the Syncthing forum, any version up to the one currently available on F-Droid is probably fine. however, nobody really knows the person in control of the repo, so you probably want to disable updates for now.

    to do that:

    1. open the Syncthing-Fork listing in F-Droid

    2. open the menu in the upper right

    3. make sure "ignore all updates" is checked

posting this separately because the thread I started about it yesterday is becoming a hellthread

  9. the #Syncthing Android drama is exploding.

    github.com/researchxxl/syncthi

@fdroidorg at this point is being used to push out an app with sensitive permissions that's been taken over by an unknown individual who refuses to engage with its large community of users and developers.

I STRONGLY recommend disabling updates from Fdroid, if not uninstalling and manually installing 2.0.11.2, or installing the Google Play version which has a different maintainer.

this is extremely shady and it's just looking worse as time goes on. I'll link to the Syncthing forum thread from about where I left off last time in a subsequent post.

  14. RE: social.anoxinon.de/@linuxnews/

Using #SyncthingFork on #Android? The Repo + #Fdroid keys have recently changed hands and the new owner seems a bit dubious at this time. There is still a chance that they are entirely non-malicious and the takeover has just been a bit bumpy… but I still went ahead and switched to the #Termux #cli-only version for the time being. The official #Syncthing Android app has been discontinued in Oct. 2024, so it's is the only way left to use it on Android unfortunately.

  15. ⚠️ Important

Not only #Syncthing #Android got terminated (because of some Google stuff that only matters in the playstore, and dev burnout I guess)

Now #SyncthingFork has allegedly switched owners too.

    Forum thread:

    forum.syncthing.net/t/25661

Response from Catfriend1, former maintainer of Syncthing-Fork:

    forum.syncthing.net/t/25661/165

It seems like a voluntary handover, but could just as well be malicious.

The problem is, the code is free, anyone could step in and make a fork that is verified trusted. It looks like researchxxl is that person now.

  16. The #syncthing for Android repo that was maintained by Catfriend1 was abandoned. It seems like a messy handover to a new GitHub account called researchxxl took place:
    github.com/researchxxl/syncthi

There is also a fork of Catfriend1s repo by nel0x, who is apparently known to the community:
    github.com/nel0x/syncthing-and

More details in the syncthing forum:
    forum.syncthing.net/t/does-any

It might be a good idea to disable automatic updates for now. Also both repos dont seem to be too active at the moment, so there is a real chance noone will keep developing and maintaining. But only time will tell.

  21. @tartley @andreiu I've definitely stopped installing #SyncthingFork updates from #Fdroid for now, and tbh @fdroidorg should probably have eyes on this

  22. @andreiu in my understanding of that thread, Catfriend1 wasn't banned, but decided to stop developing #SyncthingFork and gave the signing key to someone using the (new) Github account researchxxl:

    github.com/researchxxl/syncthi

I guess Catfriend1 must have also deleted their account on the #Syncthing forum?

    L'appropriation continue !

    @logseq @syncthing

  24. #syncthingFork migration from 1.30 to 2.08 was flawless and took 2 minutes:

    1. Start 1.30, sync, export config
    2. Uninstall 1.30
    3. Install 2.08 from #fdroid
    4. Start 2.08, import config, sync

This is very cool sync software that saves me hours. #syncthing

  25. This week in #FDroid (TWIF) is live too:

    * More #NGI #NLnet #Mobifree funded projects
    * More ways to shape #EU #DMA legislation
    * #ExodusPrivacy might need a hand
    * #Syncthing #SyncthingFork v2 on Android, backup and import your settings
    + 2 new apps
    & 164 more updates
    - 2 archived apps

On your marks, get set, Sync: f-droid.org/2025/09/11/twif.ht

  26. @fdroidorg Do you know what's up with the 2.0 builds of #SyncthingFork? Any ETA?

  27. Migration from #Syncthing v1 to v2 went a step further. #Linux containers for #Unraid got updated to v2. I have now three #Windows and four Linux machines running on v2.

All is smooth except one possible issue. My desktop backups data has grown to 250k files, 10k folders, and 6.5TiB. Scanning time for the folder jumped to over a day. I tried to set Advanced/Folders/<folder>/Hashers to 20 (the server has plenty of cores), and scanning estimation dropped to about 8 hours. Debug log showed total hashing speed improved from about 18MiB/s to 80.

I see #Android #SyncthingFork has also v2 release in Github, but it probably takes some time before it gets to #fdroid .

Some more exotic devices like #opnsense firewall and #homeassistant are still in v1, but sync just fine.
    #homelab

  28. Android: #Obtanium (instead of #FDroid app) is really awesome for managing app updates.

However, this method has an issue when the naming schema of the #apk files change on the server side, and you're using a name filter to determine the matching release file. You don't get updates anymore and you don't realize it. 🤷

    Be alert.

Today, I've got a very nasty upgrade issue with #SyncthingFork since they also decided to change the naming schema, the backup file format and had a direct upgrade issue. Bad combination.

Details: github.com/Catfriend1/syncthin and my own issue because of not following directions very closely: github.com/Catfriend1/syncthin

  29. Noch ein paar Tipps für Menschen mit #GrapheneOS und #Android-Systeme ohne Cloud/Google-Konto:

    1) Kümmert euch so schnell wie möglich um automatische Sicherungen bzw. Datenspiegelungen. Ich nutze dafür u.a. #Syncthing bzw.
