I went out to #stevenspass to sample the snow they got in the last couple of days. It was good!

I got in my first day of downhill skiing for this winter today. Given the unseasonably warm weather, I expected pretty bad conditions at #stevenspass today, but it turned out better than that. I think the groomers worked pretty hard to make the slopes skiable for everyone.

But Stevens reeeeaaally needs a visit from the Convergence Zone Snow Fairy. 🧚❄️

Hey, I was mistaken about the road US 2 west of Skykomish: it’s open, albeit with a slow section around Index. So when the Skykomish to Stevens Pass section opens on 1/4, access to the Pass from the West side of the mountains should be set. #stevenspass https://infosec.exchange/@cremevax/115815476924664400

WSDOT plans to open limited daytime access on US 2 from Skykomish up to #stevenspass starting January 4th. I still haven’t seen anything about when access to the west of Skykomish will open up. EDIT: I was wrong, access to the west of Skykomish is already operational.

@mlanger unless you’re camping at Stevens Pass (which is indeed A Thing), I think the majority of #stevenspass skiers/riders are day tripping. And coming from the West side of the mountains and then from the East just isn’t feasible as a day trip.

I don’t think the Stevens Pass folks have done a great job communicating to season pass holders so far. But to be fair, they are stuck until WSDOT can look at the bridge condition, which isn’t happening until next week. If Western access is borked for months (which seems likely) then yeah Vail has to be reasonable here.

This whole thing is going to be such a hit on the little communities along US-2, too. 🙁

Much as the lack of snow on my mountain is making me sad, at least the governor didn't just have a press conference saying the only road to it will be shut down for months.
