"By firing skilled #humanworkers and replacing them with #spicyautocomplete, Musk is assuming his final form as both the kind of boss who can be conned into replacing you with a defective chatbot and as the fast-talking sales rep who cons your boss. #Musk is transforming key #government functions into high-speed error-generating machines whose human minders are only the payroll to take the fall for the coming tsunami of #robotfuckups."

404 Media: Chatbots Keep Telling Stories About Lighthouse Keeper ‘Elias Thorne’. We Might Know Why. “In late May, researchers Sil Hamilton and David Mimno at Cornell University’s Department of Information Science published their paper, ‘Elias in the Lighthouse, Again?’ on the preprint repository arXiv. They sampled 20,000 total stories from OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Anthropic’s Claude, and […]

Ferriers, agistment and grooms.
Take heart.
This unseemly automobile fad will soon burst.
The land will not bear all the motorways and the fumes will choke the air.
I for one will rejoice when the investors see no return on their squandered fortunes into this mechano folly! -
If there is one #AI easily accessible article you read this month, it is this one.
👉ESPECIALLY👈 if you hate AI and think they are #bullshit machine, #drek #stochastiparrot #aislop #aicon #spicyautocomplete die die die.Daniel Kokotajlo an ex-#OpenAI employee was on the Australian ABC morning show, calling out a clarion warning for the humanity to wake up and take the AI THREAT seriously. The words he used were;
"Opening a door to another dimension and aliens are about to come", not literally of course. -
DEAR AI ANTAGONISTS:
You're Fighting Yesterday's WarCongratulations! You won.
Now you're mad about the victory.BREAKING:
The Thing You Demanded Actually HappenedRemember when you screamed;
"AI should cite sources instead of stealing our content!"?Well... surprise! It does that now.
But apparently winning isn't fun when you did not make the effort to keep up and the game changed.
THE PLOT TWIST
Since February, your beloved enemy transformed into exactly what you asked for:
✅ChatGPT's 200M users aren't training on your blog (as much)
✅Perplexity literally exists to search and cite
✅AI became a fancy search engine with a lame "personality"THE IRONY
What you saw:
"Stop stealing! No citing! Bullshit generators!"What you got:
AI that searches the web in real-time and sends traffic TO your sitesYour response:
"Wait, not like that!"REALITY CHECK TIME
That bandwidth you're crying about It's your actual audience finding you through AI search instead of scrolling past 47 Google ads.
You know what's expensive? Training models. You know what's cheap? Not re-scraping your furry porn blog every Tuesday.
SO HERE'S THE THING...
You spent two years demanding AI respect copyright and cite sources.
**Mission accomplished.**
Now it's a search engine that quotes you properly and drives traffic your way.
But somehow this is... still bad?
Make it make sense. 🤔
CONGRATS ON THE WIN !
Your protest worked.
AI evolved exactly how you wanted.Take the W and act like you earned it!

This is the paper the journalist references:
https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=5166938The AI antagonists, once again prove that humans do not need #AI to generate #bullshit.
All that this "research" proves is that at the most generous these Professors are ignorant of how #LLM models work. Which is the most generous interpretation of the human #hallucinations they created. Because the other explanation is less generous, they engage in academic fraud.
Briefly why:
Methodology.
They upload a specific full 185 page textbook into the LLM context window (presumably with full permission of the copyright owner), then they ask SUPER SPECIFIC questions, 👉without directing the AI to reference the specific text uploaded👈.Once again, be sceptical when humans reference a "study" showing "Bad AI". So far, every time I have seen such a study, it's the human flailing at the controls.
Including the "famous" #BBC study.Newsflash: "Hammers cause thumb injuries in humans who are 👉untrained👈 in their use"

If you {say stupid shit that #AI ▶️verifiably◀️does not do} to assert that #LLM are #spicyautocomplete #bullshit machines...
...then you are an inferior bullshit machine too...
...but 150,000x slower.

Ah, une petite surprise de #rentrée finalement…
