  1. An #OpenSource, low-cost multinuclear #NMR #spectrometer operating in the mT field regime:

    -high spectral resolution
    -arbitrary #RF pulse programming
    -requires #LabVIEW
-cost: k$ 20 (mainly PXI waveform generator & digitizer alone)
-cost could be driven down by half using a home-built RF amplifier made with high-power operational amplifiers

  2. Production and measurement of the extremely heavy, neutron-rich hydrogen isotope ⁶H achieved for the first time in an electron scattering experiment at the Mainz Microtron accelerator MAMI / Result shows stronger than expected interaction between neutrons within the nucleus 👉 press.uni-mainz.de/new-method-

  3. [Zoom on the #CosmicWeb] Have you dived into the deep fields of #Euclid revealed this Wednesday by the @ec_euclid ? Have you navigated between the thousands of #galaxies of different shapes, sizes, colors and masses? So many objects, near and far, fill our #Universe! sky.esa.int/esasky/?hide_welco

What if their spatial distribution could tell us something about two mysterious components : #DarkMatter and #DarkEnergy? This is the gamble taken by the scientists involved in the Euclid mission. To do so, they've designed some unrivalled #instruments: a camera with great depth of field and high resolution records the variety of shapes and spatial distribution of galaxies, while a #spectrometer coupled with a #photometer can determine the distances and masses of galaxies ...

Alain Blanchard, professor at the University of Toulouse and researcher at IRAP, comments on the consortium's first-ever publication of scientific data: irap.omp.eu/en/2025/03/euclid-

  4. [Focus on the #EnVision mission] Why have #Venus and Earth evolved so differently? This is the question to be answered by the EnVision #SpaceMission of the European Space Agency - ESA, scheduled for launch in 2031.

To this end, the European #probe will carry several instruments - including an imaging #spectrometer, to which IRAP staff are contributing. Observations will be made in the UV and IR domains, in order to monitor temporal variations in #surface temperature and gas concentrations within the #atmosphere - and thus gain a better understanding of interactions between the Venusian atmosphere and surface.

  5. The web based analyzer for the spectrometer is coming together, although I still have to figure out a few things. This screencapture shows a few of the features, but nothing serious, just sliding the sliders and buttoning the buttons, then cycling through a few colors on the lamp in front of the phone.

It's still WIP but you can try it here: gheja.github.io/spectro-web/sr

  6. I started to work on a mini pocket spectrograph, the 3D model will be available for download, I just need to tune a few things.

I am also working on a little web based stuff to make sense of the things seen, strictly locally in the browser, on the client side.

It's a fun random side project, though I already bought about 8 different light bulbs just to see their spectrum...

Anyone has any recommendations for an affordable color absorption #spectrometer or a kit / open source manual to build one?

  9. [#ExoMars : report and update] The postponement of the ExoMars mission has given IRAP scientists the opportunity to update some of the components of the #Raman laser #spectrometer.

The spectrometer will analyse #samples taken from beneath the surface of #Mars that have been ground and powdered beforehand. It will be able to identify the #organic compounds present and will contribute to the search for #microbial life.

Launch scheduled for October 2028! Stay tuned 😜

  11. Welcome to #mpsgoettingen! The #SPICE team is currently meeting at #mpsgoettingen to discuss results and future plans. #SPICE is a #spectrometer on board ESA's #SolarOrbiter that splits the UV-light from the #Sun’s #corona into its various wavelengths. Have a great stay!

  12. [#EnvironmentalFootprint] The development of the Athena X-IFU instrument, the high-resolution X-ray #spectrometer that will be aboard ESA's #Athena space observatory in 2037, has an environmental cost.

An analysis of the instrument's lifecycle has identified the main items of energy costs, mobilization of mineral and metal resources, ...
