There are a few reasons I think Humza Yousaf's victory in the #SNPLeadershipElection may prove a poisoned chalice. Firstly because 30% of members boycotted all 3 candidates that's a big pool of potential voters if polls turn against the SNP, which can't be ruled out. Secondly, those who wanted to stop Humza Yousaf will feel able to launch a second leadership bid if polls don't go well. I think party unity will be hard to come by.

I'm glad Kate Forbes lost the #SNPLeadershipElection. Ash Regan never had a chance because, regardless of how much traction some of her positions may have within the wider independence movement, most who backed those positions have quit the party over the last few years. Secondly, she was an incompetent advocate meaning her wing of the party felt depressed. Not only did 30% of the members boycott the process, but most of Regan's second preferences went to the candidate the other 2 wanted to lose

30% of SNP members didn't back any candidate in the #SNPLeadershipElection. John Courtice suggests this doesn't matter. I think it does. The large vote for Kate Forbes is worrying. But all things considered Humza Yousaf winning is the best result I could have hoped for.

Humza Yousaf has been elected SNP leader on second preferences. This is pretty much what I expected. Looks like Ash Regan's supporters didn't lend Kate Forbes second preference votes. Is there a hashtag for this very important election for Scots and for the rest of the UK. I consider it the least best result for Tories and Labour. And that suits me. #SNPLeadershipElection

Listening now and just heard him play my favorite song from what Marc claims is the greatest debut album of all time: Venus from Marquee Moon. I also predict she'll join Alba and will try to detach as many SNP members/activists and voters to Alex Salmond's party as possible. SNP civil war won't end any time soon. Kate Forbes and Ash Regan couldn't have done any worse as far as I can see.

The problem with a ‘revolutionary increase in green power generation’ is the inescapable environmental cost of habitat damage and loss. I’d rather see a vision for a revolutionary decrease in energy consumption. But it’s better than refusing to deal with fossil fuel consumption, for at least it is an acknowledgment we have a problem. #ClimateChange #SNPLeadershipElection
