  1. I'm off to the vet again today.
Poor Benji has another new symptom.

  2. I've been trying to slowly reduce the time Benji spends outside again.
From a cat who had full access 24/7 to staying in at night wasn't as difficult as 'never going out at all' this summer.

We'd got down to 3 hours a day when I am home. Otherwise inside.

This morning he'd been out less than an hour when I heard cats yelling.
After I rescued him (he never knows when to stand down) I checked him over and he seemed fine.
About 15 mins later there were bloody paw prints in the kitchen and across my bed.
I can't even see a cut but it took 30 mins to stop leaking slowly.
So now I have to try to remember not to open the doors or windows unless he is locked in somewhere safe.

  3. Benji's new probiotic food powder arrived. I used half a sachet, and so far he is eating it.
Mind you, he ate two portions of the hypoallergenic food a couple of weeks ago before refusing any more.

  4. Some days are heavier than others.
    Quick recovery to Macho😿.

  5. Dusya got sick. There was blood on her nostrils and around her mouth. She had incontinence. I took her to the clinic. They ran tests and said it was panleukopenia. I bought the medicine. Treated her for a week. Fed her with a dropper and gave her water the same way. Two weeks later we were already going for walks again.

  6. It got colder. I used to open a window to the basement so the cats could sleep there at night. I carried Dusya home, but my own cats were strongly against it. Then the building residents started closing the basement window too. In the end, Dusya got sick

  7. Lemon is still sick, it's a struggle to get her to eat anything and to give her her medicine. But we managed another day, hopefully tomorrow will be a little better.

Lucy initially went to chomp on her sister's tail but decided to keep her company instead.

  8. Lemon was clearly feeling a bit under the weather these last few days (again 😓) and at first I thought that it might just be the stress from having a new kitten that got to her. But then she stopped eating her kibble and started drooling, so back to the vet we went. Turns out she has a painful infection on her tongue that is causing her problems. The vet have us painkillers for her, let's hope they help.

  9. Our poor baby is sick. She suddenly stopped eating yesterday, instead she was vomiting almost nonstop. We took her to the vet who had a lot of trouble drawing blood from her because she was tensing up so much. They had to try three of her legs, and her neck got shaved and jabbed three times before they could get enough to run the required tests. Needless to say she was pretty traumatized by the time we got home.

  10. Loki Update: Healing, Shark Collar, and Where Funds Went

Good news first: Loki had a recheck today and he’s doing really well. Electrolytes are back in the normal range, he’s alert/curious, and he even made the vet tech juggle him on the way back to our room (classic Loki chaos).

The plan is suture removal next week, start tapering a couple meds, and keep a hawk-eye on any licking. We’re waiting on culture results to see if we need to swap antibiotics again.

We also saw the bladder images; gnarly is the right word. The surgeon did a double closure because the bladder wall was so angry/inflamed; it was iffy at the time, but seems to be holding and healing now.

    Payment update & thanks:

We just added $595 to our Parkview account ($495 cash + $100 card).

    Outstanding balance: $1,712.10 total
    Invoice #20130 (9/12): $1,617.82 remaining
    Invoice #20212 (9/15): $94.28

We’re waiting on the GoFundMe transfer; all GFM funds will go straight to these balances.

Huge thank-you to everyone who’s donated/shared; your help is literally keeping Loki’s care moving forward. We’ll update again after suture removal (and with the culture results).

  11. Update on Loki 💜

We just wanted to take a moment to say thank you so much to everyone who has helped us so far. Between GoFundMe and cash donations, we’ve been able to raise $330 ($150 in cash and $180 through GoFundMe). Every dollar is going straight to Loki’s bill on Monday.

He still has a bit of a road ahead, we go back for a recheck on Monday, and then he’ll need his stitches out two weeks from this past Wednesday. Those visits will add more costs, but we’re really hoping that will be the end of it and no more major emergencies.

We can’t thank you enough for supporting our sweet boy while he fights through all of this. Your kindness truly means the world to us.

❤️ From us, and from Loki

  12. CW: Sick cat, probably good outcome, long

Got my cat (Mojo Jojo) back from the emergency vet. We had noticed his nictitating membrane (3rd eyelid) was raised, so we took him to our regular (cat specialist) vet on Tuesday. She looked him over and couldn't find anything wrong, so we decided to increase his steroids some and wait.

We've recently been giving both our cats gabapentin for vet trips; this cat gets Very Angry at the vet and our other cat will pee, poop, and vomit in her carrier on the way otherwise. The gaba helps a lot.

So, we got him home and he was kind of stumbling around and having difficulty jumping, but we figured that was the gaba. Narrator: it was not.

The next morning (yesterday) he was stumbling more, and his eyes were darting back and forth horizontally (nystigmus). I had vertigo once, and had the exact same symptom. Your inner ear has tubes that your brain uses to sense motion, and sometimes some calcium gets stuck. I had used something called the Epley maneuver to fix it. Basically you roll over a certain way and the calcium will fall to a place where it won't get stuck.

I tried doing something similar for Mojo, but he Did Not Care for it.

We called our vet, who suggested we call a cat neurologist, which I didn't know existed. We made an appointment, but they didn't have one until Monday (5 days). After a couple of hours of him gradually getting worse we decided to take him to the emergency vet, at the same location as the neurologist. We figured at least they'd have the proper equipment.

Fortunately, the neurologist was working but doing emergency care. She recommended a CT scan (ear infection) or an MRI (tumor). We decided on the CT scan since it better matched his symptoms, cost less, and a tumor would more likely be fatal.

The CT scan showed that both inner/mid ears were infected! They did a myringotomy, where they get a culture from the middle ear and try to wash out the gunk. On his less-affected side they said the gunk was kind of cemented in place and they couldn't get it all out.

We brought him home today. He still staggers around and falls over but OH MY GOD HE TRIES SO HARD. He's also been REALLY hungry which is a good sign. It'll probably take about two weeks for his nystigmus to go away, and we re-check his ears in a month.

  13. I’m sad today. Our #MaineCoon doesn’t seem to be recovering from having the hairball that was blocking his back passage removed. It’s been 4-ish weeks since. He’s eating and using the litter box but feels like he’s still losing weight, not gaining. And he’s appearing a bit Ataxic. Wobbly on his legs, not jumping well. And his heads a bit wobbly :( #SickCat #CatsOfMastodon
