  1. Common camas (Camassia quamash) in two shades. They can range from pale blue to deep purple blue. They spread by seed and bulb division. They were a main food source for coastal tribes.

  2. Flowers now, berries later: a thimbleberry flower (Rubus parviflorus) amid its huge leaves, and a salal (Gaultheria shallon) stem of barely open, very hairy flowers.

  3. Red huckleberry (Vaccinium parviflorum). I almost missed the flowers this year! They're so green! Two weeks ago i thought I had plenty of time. Now they've mostly set fruit.

  4. The flowers of our thinleaf huckleberry (Vaccinium membranaceum) are hard to spot because they are translucent and disappear against their leaves. But the berries are dark blue, easy to find and delicious.

This one is growing in our garden, but isn't very happy. We end up cleaning out a lot of deadwood. I wouldn't recommend this as a garden plant, it really wants to be in the woods.

  5. Rhododendrons and azaleas are blooming all over! The yellow azalea is a Eurasia import, and has a lovely spicy clove-like scent. The pink to white one is probably a rosebay rhodie native to the southeast US.

  6. Amanita pantherinoides, the western panther amanita, is very toxic. Apparently it usually grows under firs in the forest, but here it is under a fir in the city.

  7. The lady on the corner who has the huge collection of hellebores now has spring flowers galore. I can hardly wait to see what she has in store for later. And her (cherry) tulip magnolia trees are magnificent too. (Looked at the photo, was misled by the pink!)

  8. The weather really battered the violets and the tulip magnolias, one so low to the ground, the other so high in the sky... but although ragged, they still are beautiful

  9. Our fruit trees: second year plum trees blooming (fruit this year?) and my native crabapple is covered with flower buds! It may fruit, we've had it for almost 6 years

  10. A stylish chicken coop in front of a neighborhood house. There are 3 chickens in residence but only one is outside at the moment.

  11. I was a little under the weather yesterday morning, and sat watching the dog play in our backyard. Noticed a couple of pretty things
