  1. The flowers of our thinleaf huckleberry (Vaccinium membranaceum) are hard to spot because they are translucent and disappear against their leaves. But the berries are dark blue, easy to find and delicious.

    This one is growing in our garden, but isn't very happy. We end up cleaning out a lot of deadwood. I wouldn't recommend this as a garden plant, it really wants to be in the woods.

  9. Backyard find, false turkey tails (Stereum ostrea?) growing on chestnut tree trimmings. The description says they are hairy, which you can see, but the gray green part looks almost felted.

    A friend on Bluesky mentioned these have been classified as S. fasciatum, and apparently S. ostrea only grows in Indonesia, thanks to DNA sequencing
