The Sears Tower rises above all nearby buildings in Chicago in 2003.
It was renamed the Willis Tower in 2009, but when I took this photo from a nearby building in 2003, it was still the Sears Tower.
Although Sears’ naming rights expired in 2003, the building continued to be called the Sears Tower for several years, despite multiple changes in ownership. In March 2009, London-based insurance broker Willis Group Holdings agreed to lease a portion of the building and obtained the naming rights. On July 16, 2009, the building was officially renamed the Willis Tower.

50 years ago today, the Willis Tower (previously the Sears Tower) had its grand opening and for 25 years was the tallest building in the world. It's only appropriate for me that, going into Father's Day Weekend, I fondly remember when my summer day camp took a field trip to the Sears Tower in the early or mid- 80s. My dad, who had an office with Sears World Trade on the 50th floor, came down to meet my camp group. 7yo me thought that was SO COOL. #SearsTower #WillisTower #Architecture #Chicago

@adamcr When I was growing up in the 80s, my dad had an office on the 50th floor. I don't recall if his window faced east. I was too little to be aware such things mattered. I do remember going downtown with my summer day camp on a field trip to visit the #SearsTower, and Dad came down to say hello and I thought that was SO COOL.

Perk to commuting to the office on Friday: almost nobody here, which means I get to book one of the prime offices with the East view. Now if only they’d do a better job of cleaning the windows…
