#WritingWonders Day 12. Do you think your story will make your readers cry at some point?
Had a shitty few days at work and not been up for posting.
#Denial is lighter in tone than #ScratchTheSurface. Not much chance of anyone crying, I don't think. There are tears from Justin, some gigglesnort moments of awkwardness, frustration and upset, but nothing heartbreaking.

#WritingWonders Day 19: What things in my story would I like to exist in this world?
Without doubt it would be wolfshifters - The ability to turn into an actual wolf. To run as a pack. To sense your wolf inside you and have heightened senses even while in human form. To have a pack you belong to, who will defend you to the end of the world.
The shifters don't appear much in #Denial as both MCs are human, but set it's the same world as #ScratchTheSurface

#WritingWonders Day 1:
2 truths and 1 lie about WIPI'm going to write about #Denial a lot this month as I'm trying to finish the first draft for #CampNaNoWriMo
I'm still discovering more about the characters and where the story is going, so I may also dip into #ScratchTheSurface for a few answers if the prompts fit better.#Denial
*Kink awakening
*Break up of MCs due to cheating
*MC wrongly accused of GBH -
#WritingWonders Day 31. Have you ever written alternative endings?
No. When I start writing, I only have a vague idea of where I want the story to end. It can veer off in a different direction from my original thoughts, but ultimately, it ends where it ends.
I write romance and can't cope with the thought of no hea, so I definitely couldn't write an opposing ending. When all is said and done, my MCs absolutely have to get a lasting, and happy ending.

#FridayKiss - ENDING
Ahhhhhh. He. Was. Going. To. Die.
βYouβ¦ saw.β He closed his eyes. Shit. Shit.
βYes, I saw and I touched.β That rumbling voice vibrated along his skin, rustling every nerve ending.
He could feel the heat of Cazβs breath on his cheek. When did he get so close? -
#WritingWonders Day 30: How has your vision of your MC changed since you wrote the first page?
Not a huge amount. I started with Eerie in my mind before I really knew what the story would entail. He is both a little more scarred and a hell of a lot braver than I had first envisaged.
His reaction to certain situations came as a surprise to both of us. He can also be a bit of a smart-arse in the right circumstances, which I didn't see coming. -
#WritingWonders Day 29: Describe your bookβs cover.
This changes a lot. I've toyed with bound wrists and other kink suggestive images. The one I'm currently using in Atticus is of a naked torso, with hands coming around from the back, splayed open on his chest and belly.
I would love to commission an artist to create a cover specifically showing Eerie, if/when I can afford it.
For now I'm playing around with ideas. -
#WritingWonders Day 28: Does your antagonist have any redeemable qualities?
I tried to develop a few. I initially intended him to be more conflicted, but he honestly wouldn't let me redeem him at all. He's too consumed by his own rhetoric to allow it.
He wasn't originally going to play such a large role, but when I came to see that Justin wasn't such a bad guy, Damian Hart eagerly rose to the fore and took up the mantle. -
#WritingWonders Day 27: What would your MC's favorite book be?
Growing up, Eerie would have been restricted in what he was allowed to read. His escape was always music. Now he can do as he likes, he may get into biographies of musicians - the ones who lived the craziest of lives.
He isn't a big reader, but he does like online blogs. His favourite is by a submissive he doesn't name, but whose personal mantras he uses when he feels overwhelmed. -
#WritingWonders Day 26 β If your characters were on a deserted island, which one would resort to cannibalism first?
My first thought was one of the wolf shifters - Humans are just another animal species, right?
But then I wondered what Rowan would do.
If he didn't much like the person, I have an inkling he wouldn't lose much sleep over eating them - after they were already dead.
We're not talking about murder here. He wouldn't do that... probably. -
#WritingWonders Day 25: If your MC was on social media, what's their favourite platform and why?
Eerie is NOT on social media. He doesn't want anyone from his past finding out where he is. This doesn't preclude him from using Rowan's profiles to cyber stalk certain people. I haven't discussed it in the book, but the more I think about it, the more sure I become - He stalks the ass off his brother, Charlie.
Of course, this doesn't mean he can't be found.
-
#WritingWonders Day 24: If your book was a fable, what would the moral be?
Hmm...
Necessity is the mother of invention
or maybe...
Our greatest weaknesses can also be our strengths
-
#WritingWonders Day 20: a fight or conflict scene.
A scene that brings together some of Eerie's least favourite things.
It doesn't go so well. -
#WritingWonders Day 19: Who or what does your MC hate the most?
Things:
Being stared at
Unsolicited touch
Being disregarded
Intolerant bigots
Panic attacks
Nightmares
Crowds
The Church of TruthPeople:
The man (not named)
Reverend Cole
Damian Hart
Isabelle Hart -
#WritingWonders: Day 18: Rebel or a rule follower?
Eerie has ended up both, even though he's naturally a rule follower.
It almost killed him to live by the dictates of his parents and he was forced to rebel to find a way to scrape an existence on his own terms.'Weekly church and social gatherings designed to grease the palms of the powerful, rich congregants. It was an ouroboros of a community and noxious to it's core.'
-
#WritingWonders Day 16: What does your MC do to cope with pain?
Eerie derives pleasure and equanimity from pain, but only in certain situations. Trust is the lynchpin. He goes through a number of awkward encounters before he understands his failure to reach a blissful sangfroid is down to his fear of opening up.
When he finally does trust someone, and submits to them fully - Oh wolf!Outside of play, pain is just pain and he will shut down and endure. No matter what.
-
#WritingWonders Day 15 - What unintentional behaviours hurt your MC?
Touching him without his express permission is very likely to result in a panic attack. especially if he doesn't see it coming.
'For one long and awful moment, his heart stuttered to a stop. He stilled in the trap of her fierce arms, his own left hanging limp and useless at his sides. A whispering lick of fear, sharp and hot, splashed up his spine, and panic screamed through him in a wave.'
-
#WritingWonders Day 14: What flaws does your MC have?
I'm so glad Eerie isn't answering this one. Shit talking is a hard habit to break. So, maybe that's a good one. He's incapable of thinking well about himself, at least not at the start. He talks himself down *a lot*.
He also internalises a lot of shame and turns it on himself to find a release.
It does get better through the course of the book, but the instinct to self blame is always present. -
#WritingWonders Day 11: (MC POV) Three most important things in life.
You want me to choose? Umm... if you mean other than people, it would be my submission. It's my choice. Me who decides who and when. It gives me control in a way I never had before.
After that, autonomy over my own life. Which you might think is strange cos I then give it away again, but like I said, it's mine to give.
Lastly, I'd say, music. It's the way I make sense of everything that's happened. -
#WritingWonders: D12: How important are material possessions and wealth to your MC?
Eerie walked away from wealth when he was just shy of his 16th birthday, not that he ever felt a part of the privileged world he was born in.
The sudden switch to homelessness was a huge shock and his naivety very nearly killed him.
Now, he's happy having enough to get by. he has very few possessions and only cares about the ones Caz gives to him. -
#WritingWonders Day 11
MC POV - Briefly describe relationship with your parents"I don't have one. In all honesty, I never did. A relationship is supposed to be a shared thing, right? Well, we never shared anything. They saw someone they didn't like and decided to twist them into someone they could pretend to tolerate.
"We had lunch last week. The first time I've seen them in over 4 years. You want to know how it went?"CW - *Excerpt contains deadname*

#FridayKiss - Trace
He tried to cover his eyes with his hands, but Caz pressed them to his chest, giving him no room to move.
"Talk to me, kitten," he said softly, his honey eyes still soft from sleep and creased with concern.
Eerie gazed up at him and the words stuck fast in his throat. A tear slid from the corner of his eye and trailed wetly across his skin. Caz traced its path with the pad of his thumb, letting the silence draw out. -
#WritingWonders Day 10: Is your MC responsible for anyone else?
Not at all.
Eerie didn't grow up learning the skills needed to help him become independent, let alone look after anyone else. When he runs away from home, he barely manages to keep himself alive. It's Rowan who helps him become self-reliant.For the most part, his found family want to take care of him, which he both loves and finds incredibly hard to believe.
-
#WritingWonders Day 9. What is the first emotion your MC feels when they hear the word home? Why?
Too many emotions.
Before - Grief and pain from losing contact with his twin; fear, anxiety, loneliness.
Now - Love, confidence, hope.
Found family gives him a place to belong. His mate gives him acceptance.
-
#WritingWonders Day 8. On a typical day, what sounds can be heard in your MC's home/living space?
Eerie and Rowan's flat is in a busy and not too well thought of part of the city. Sound proofing is not a thing. Typical noises would be neighbours arguing (and making up), traffic outside, and late at night they hear drunk people outside, often fighting and yelling.
It's still a step up from the squat they lived in before. At least they have privacy and relative safety.
-
#WritingWonders Day 7: Colours in MCβs bedroom.
I hadn't thought about this, probably because Eerie doesn't care. It may be his own private space, but it's too soon for him to have done more than claim it with his possessions. It's only been a year, after all.
Think old Anaglypta, painted over and over in magnolia paint.
'Damp was creeping in from the corner, peeling back the yellowing wallpaper and spreading blackened speckles across the bubbled surface.'
-
#WritingWonders Day 6 - Describe your MCs eyes.
#WIP #ScratchTheSurface
*Direct eye contact in attached image*Eerie's eyes are pale, silvery blue. They draw him a lot of unwanted attention, so he tends not to look people directly in the eye, unless he has to.
The attached image is not of Eerie, but illustrates the colour pretty nicely, I think. I wish I could reproduce the picture I have of him in my head, but I am far from having ANY skill in that area π

@AmaraJLynn @qwriters @lgbtqbookstodon @sapphicbooks @mmromance
He concentrated on the presence of his mate, letting it sustain him through the agonising ritual. The sickening crack of bone and cartilage, always so visceral, submitted to Eerie's close scrutiny and faded to a whisper.
-
#WritingWonders Day 5: Does your antagonist have any moral boundaries they would never cross?
Eerie's father is the main antagonist. Others cause problems. He is the problem.
He would say he's maintaining moral boundaries, not crossing them. He's stopping the pervasive rot of immorality, and the brainwashing of today's youth by the internet and those damn liberals.
He's limited by the law (ish), and by public opinion. He wants to be SEEN as a force for good. -
#WritingWonders Day 3: Tattoos, scars or distinguishing features.
Eerie has scars on his arms, thighs and ribs. They're the result of historical, and occasionally not so historical, self-harming.
He has healed scarring from top surgery.
He has several tattoos and is working on his next design.
His most distinguishing features, on first glance, would be his piercing husky-blue eyes, and dyed black hair that has blue streaks where it falls over his eyes.
