The 2016 Pyritis, the Santorini "Mega Cuvée" from Karamolegos, meaning a blend of parcels (2 from Pyrgos Village, 1 from Megalochori, often with 120-year-old vines), is all Assyrtiko.
This is a great time to dive in. It has come together well, graceful, elegant and ripe enough. This shows no sign of any urgency to drink. Pretty tasty, too, in a restrained fashion.

The pretty and familiar sea-blue bottle is 2019 Santorini from Gavalas, an elegant, Assyrtiko-dominated creature. Ripe but restrained, it's a textured white with a polished feel, tasty and harmonious.
This isn't a big blockbuster style, or meant to be, but it drinks beautifully, not a hair out of place, still able to coat the palate. Years left, but in a good place today.

the other day I found this terribly over exposed photo that I took in Santorini many years ago. I lowered the exposure and highlights to see what's left and I'm actually digging the effect. I remember the island as bright and sunny and white and blue and so this seems appropriate to my memory.

Age allowed it to blossom while remaining completely youthful. It has pulled in the wood, which seems to provide texture and not get in the way even a little. It is still young; lots of time left!
