More evidence of the Galaxy Tab S8’s One UI 8.5 firmware spotted!
The Galaxy Tab S8 was released with the Galaxy S22 series in the Galaxy Unpacked event in February 2022 to give you a strong flagship tablet with its Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 (4nm) processor that was new at the time. Since then, successors like last year’s Galaxy Tab S11 beat the Galaxy Tab S8 by introducing new processors and new features, such as Now Brief found in Galaxy Tab S11. The Galaxy Tab S8 was already promised 4 generations of OS upgrades and 5 years of security updates.
One UI 8.0 upgrades the Galaxy Tab S8’s Android version for the fourth time, upgrading it to Android 16. Since then, Samsung was working on One UI 8.5 for the Galaxy S25, whose beta program officially closed in Korea last week. Many devices who were eligible for One UI 8.0 are supposed to receive the One UI 8.5 update, but factors may affect the eligibility.
The Galaxy Tab S8 has been spotted testing One UI 8.5 earlier as we’ve pointed out in an earlier article with build EYL1. However, we found a stronger proof that the Galaxy Tab S8 is really being considered for the One UI 8.5 update, because we’ve spotted a new build in the Korean version of the cellular version of the tablet.
This new build for the Korean model changes the firmware generation letter from J to K as seen in X806NKOSAJZB6, making the existence of One UI 8.5 for the Galaxy Tab S8 more evident. The USA cellular model (SM-X808U) and the Chinese models (SM-X706C, SM-X806C, and SM-X906C) didn’t enter testing yet.
The following test builds have been spotted:
- SM-X706N: X706NKOUAKZD1
- SM-X806N: X806NKOUAKZD1
- SM-X906N: X906NKOUAKZD1
- SM-X706B: X706BXXUAEZD1
- SM-X806B: X806BXXUAEZD1
- SM-X906B: X906BXXUAEZD1
- SM-X700: X700XXUAEZD1
- SM-X800: X800XXUAEZD1
- SM-X900: X900XXUAEZD1
Since we’re only at the start of the rollout of One UI 8.5 for the Galaxy S25, we’ll have to wait for a few weeks until this version of One UI for the Galaxy Tab S8 gets released. So, if you are using this tablet series, know that you’ll be getting the update in the next coming weeks.
Similarly, the Galaxy S22 has also entered One UI 8.5 testing with build number S908NKSU8HZD1, and the May security update is also being worked on with build S908NKSS9GZE4. This means that a bootloader update is required before One UI 8.5 can install successfully. However, we haven’t seen a new security update for the Galaxy Tab S8 being worked on.
One UI 8.5 features a brand new design that will make your Galaxy device more attractive, along with introducing new features, such as Now Nudges. Older Galaxy devices may not get all features that made it to the Galaxy S26 series.
The Galaxy Tab S8 is going to get its last One UI upgrade in the middle of the rollout, and it will not longer get further One UI updates after that. If you still want Android 17 or beyond, you’ll have to purchase a new device to continue receiving Android updates.

Galaxy Tab S8 receives January 2026 Security Patch
Samsung has recently begun distributing the January 2026 security patch to the Tab S8 series. This is built on top of One UI 8.0 that uses Android 16 as the base. Other countries that didn’t receive this specific update yet will receive it soon.
Although the Galaxy Tab S8 received the December 2025 security update last month, this tablet series isn’t eligible for monthly security updates. Samsung released the next security patch 2 months ahead of schedule to make your tablet more secure.
According to the latest data, we have found the following firmware versions released:
- SM-X700: X700XXS9EZA3 [KOO]
- SM-X706N: X706NKOS9JZA3 [KOO]
- SM-X800: X800XXS9EZA3 [KOO]
- SM-X806N: X806NKOS9JZA3 [KOO]
- SM-X900: X900XXS9EZA3 [KOO]
- SM-X906N: X906NKOS9JZA3 [KOO]
To obtain the update, follow these steps:
- Open the Settings app
- Navigate to Software update
- Tap on Download and Install
- You should be able to see the update information. Verify the version with your device model posted above.
- Click on Download, let it download, and click on Install. Make sure that you download the update through Wi-Fi.
This security update should take 5 to 10 minutes maximum to install once your phone reboots. Make sure that you have the phone charged fully before initiating the update process to avoid interruptions. Back up your data to your PC, the cloud, or any other device in case the update went wrong. Don’t interrupt the update process, or you’ll experience problems later. To mitigate green line issues caused by heat, do the update on a well-ventilated room.

Galaxy Tab S8 enters One UI 8.5 testing!
If you think that the Galaxy Tab S8 is not eligible for One UI 8.5, you’re wrong. The Galaxy Tab S8 was released alongside the Galaxy S22 on February 2022 in the Galaxy Unpacked event to usher in a new era of Android tablets, with the Qualcomm Snapdragon powering the entire lineup. Fast forward to December 2025, this tablet series is only two months shy of celebrating its fourth year birthday.
Now, we are determined to tell you that all Samsung devices that received One UI 8.0 will receive One UI 8.5, due to it being built on the same Android version, just like what Samsung used to do with previous One UI versions. A great example of this is the Galaxy Tab S8!
Tipster Alfatürk has spotted a new build for the Galaxy Tab S8 Wi-Fi version, but we haven’t found any info for the cellular version yet.
You can find the following info:
- SM-X700: X700XXU9EYL1
- SM-X800: X800XXU9EYL1
- SM-X900: X900XXU9EYL1
One UI 8.5 features a brand new design that will make your Galaxy device more attractive, along with introducing new features, such as Now Nudges. Older Galaxy devices may not get all features that will make it to the Galaxy S26 series that will be unveiled early next year.
The Galaxy Tab S8 is going to get its last One UI upgrade next year, and it will not longer get further One UI updates after that. If you still want Android 17 or beyond, you’ll have to purchase a new device to continue receiving Android updates.
