A British MP is targeted by a reparations demand over Caribbean slavery.
Barbados wants to nationalise a sugar plantation owned by Richard Drax, a wealthy member of parliament for the Conservative Party and descendant of a family of colonists enriched by the slave trade on the island.

(2/3) Present day: Enter stage right, Richard Grosvenor Plunkett-Ernle-Erle-Drax, Conservative MP for South Dorset. #RichardDrax inherited the 250-hectare (617 acres) Drax Hall plantation in Barbados (worth £5.25m) from his farther in 2017 and failed to declare it to parliament. He lives at his family’s mansion in Charborough Park, Dorset and he is the largest single landowner in Dorset (owning 23.5 square miles) and 125 Dorset properties personally or through family trusts and a £4.5m holiday villa on nearby Sandbanks. Richard Drax's wealth today, and the property he inherited, is a direct continuation of that made from slavery. In the 17 CE the Drax family under Sir James Drax, was the part owner of (at least) two slave ships, the Samuel and the Hope. The Family owned the largest sugar plantation in Barbados and is credited as being the architects of slavery-based sugar production. The Caricom Reparations Commission has also noted that they had agents in the African continent to kidnap people to work on their plantations in Barbados and Jamaica. When slavery was abolished in 1833 the Drax family was compensated £4,293 12s 6d, a massive sum for 1836.
