  1. REBLOG: ‘Forgive Us, the Poets’ by Smitha Vishwanath

    Poem

    We begin pouring our thoughts
As if we were throwing water over a raging fire
As if our words were a balm
in case of a disaster -
    natural or manmade
    personal or public -
That would soothe the wounded, the lost,
the broken, the frightened, the grieving,
like it were a spell that would reverse the chaos,
    nullify the damage,
    and return things to equilibrium.
We write and write as if lives depended on it -
    ours and others,
    silence, an unspeakable sin,
    We dare not succumb to.
Until every single word has been spilt
from the deep well within us -
    only then, we go mute.
    only then, we turn away.

We fear words are no solution -
to the pain, the hunger, the madness
and words can be read and forgotten,
    written and rewritten,
    changed,
    erased
and that they do not matter to the dying
    or the dead!

And yet, we write and write
    because words are birds -
    that can travel across borders,
    into strange, foreign lands
    and make a home
    in open minds,
    and sing songs
that can ignite a man’s heart,
    chirp repeatedly
    to make him rise to action;
    chirp, to bring about a change;
chirp, to save the world and all of mankind.

  6. REBLOG: ‘An Empty Plate’ by Anowar Sadak

    Poem

The plate is empty, the night is long,
Yet mothers whisper a hopeful song.
    Children sleep with silent pain,
    Praying tomorrow brings food again.

    Empty bowls beside their bed,
Dreams of rice fill every head.
    Tiny hearts learn to endure,
    Though tomorrow feels unsure.

A full stomach brings strength and light,
A little peace in a difficult fight.
For hunger steals both hope and rest,
And food is life’s most basic test.

No child should cry because of need,
No family suffer without food to feed.
Behind each empty plate we see,
A story of struggle, dignity, and humanity.

May kindness grow where hunger stays,
May hope shine through the darkest days.
Until every plate is filled once more,
And no one sleeps hungry anymore.

  10. REBLOG: ‘Asking the Right Question’ by Kim M. Russell

    Poem

    Three letter questions, like how,
    who and why, do
send me off on a tangent. Have you
meandered among those words? Have you ever
been lost in a how? We will never know
if we have been taken for
    fools, but it is certain,
in the world in which we live today, that
the rich and powerful do not care what you
think, how you live, whether you are
    healthy, coping, happy and doing
what you always dreamed of. The
powerful don’t ask if you are all right –
    that’s never a thing.

  14. REBLOG: ‘My Arsenal of Poetica’ by Laura Bloomsbury

    Poem

    i

    Cut to the chase
    précis the prose
    polish the words
    notes in a song
    thread them along
    bracelet for tongue

    ii

    But where to begin?
In a desert, distilling dry air
    some drips of condensation
    some half-sensed sense
    a semblance of sentence
a stuttering of lines that slip
in, down and past the part
    where rhymes like uncaged lions
    pace, as pendulum, as meter
    between syllable and silence

    iii

Into mixed company, comes my poetry
often you I mourn, and with chalice
of sweet bitterness, him as Merlin.
Death prowls by inference, deals the knave
of hearts, damns the course of romance
and dammed it is too with millponds
where I've drowned so many foolish drafts.
But epic's just eponymous, trivia is trumps
and this sphere's so full of beautiful blown roses
west wind has summoned early snows.

  15. REBLOG: ‘Don´t let me stop’ by Lady Lee

    Poem

If I had wings, I´d fight or flight
    Doesn´t matter even with fright
May be drifting in day or night
High as a kite, high as a kite

The road may be twisted or rough
Shifted with a huff or a puff
    Even prickled in my scruff
So no more bluff, so no more bluff

In every life, a pinch of salt
Be a runner for no one´s fault
Road´s not glassy for me to halt
Do a gestalt, do a gestalt

I´ll do my best to reach the top
Carry on even there´s a flop
For I know I´m top of the crop
Don´t let me stop, don´t let me stop

    Poem

    have you
    ever seen real
    unicorn in uniform
    march in parade, wearing
    best tailored vest
    with tassels?

    ‘tis no hassle
    for mythical creature
    that’s known
    how to play its
    own brassy horn
    since magical day
    ’twas born,

  17. REBLOG: ‘When You Make Holy the Verb, You Emily’ by Selma Martin

    Poem

I will strip back everything as I loaf here
let the rest be absorbed like osmosis
with inner eye, I will Emily the backdrop
document till the effort is grounding

Free from forged manacles to adhere
to, will inhale deep every color I notice
focus how they penetrate my scent top
until the very tip of my head is exploding

I will Emily and avoid all entanglements
of metaphors and the foolish need to focus
on their strength to take me over the top
—the last doom of folly in speechifying

I will strip back everything as I loaf here
I will inhale deep every color I notice
focus on their strength to take me over the top
focus on Emily—who scarcely deigned to lie
—and aim to overtake creases without sermonizing

  18. Update from my partner (who you should totally follow)

    Reblog via joelle

I’m just going to type out a quick update here for the sheer hell of it. There has been a lot going on in my personal and professional life at the moment, and I am deep in the process of Getting My Shit Together. Because of this, it is difficult to have the spoons for things like blog posts and writing of my own. My job is in the category of social work and social services. It is emotionally demanding and requires a lot of physical work as well. I go in at 3pm and get back home anywhere from 10 to 11 pm. Sometimes I collapse in a heap on the bed. Other times I have enough energy to play some video games.

I really enjoy playing Final Fantasy XIV, the MMORPG one. It provides me with enough escapism to last a whole week if I can fit in a hefty play session. Lately, I have even had a few people to play with – including my beloved partner. I have also been playing a bit of Palworld and The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC (second chapter). I believe Palworld will have enough longevity to justify the purchase (it’s a meaty game). I know I will get my money’s worth from The Legend of Heroes series as a whole. Pokemon is a series I have largely grown out of though. It is interesting to hear how so many adults around me continue to find joy in it, Gamefreak must be doing something right. But for me I would rather be playing something like FFXIV or Palworld (or the open world Zelda games) which feel like there are less barriers to having a chill time. Being a working adult has changed my gaming habits over time. It is a death by a thousand cuts situation which has killed off my interest in most video games that I used to enjoy.

To fill the void left by Total Devotion to Gaming, I have picked up some books and magazines again. I also go to a weekly film club type thing at a local theater. I am (finally) working my way through Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace and have progressed to about the halfway point. I have also subscribed to Harper’s and invested in a membership at Barnes & Noble which gives me access to other magazines. Today I picked up the newest issue of The Atlantic and a special magazine that covers the history of Goth/post punk music and the subculture around it(surprising no one who knows me). I look forward to diving into these this weekend. This maturation into a “Magazine Adult” feels uncomfortable to me, as someone who always cast aspersions at such people when I was younger. Nonetheless I have accepted that I am a cultured and reading person who needs to keep that part of my brain fed and happy or it will become unruly and difficult to manage.

This is my current lifestyle. My partner and I just finished watching through all of The Wire, which is still my favorite TV show of all time. After a rewatch, I have some nitpicks but it manages to balance a lot of spinning plates at once. The landing at the end of the series is rocky, but it’s fitting for a show that covers early 21st century American life. It goes hand in hand with Infinite Jest quite well too, I recommend experiencing both alongside each other.

I am off to work but should have more to say soon. Until then, don’t neglect your media diet. Consuming blindly leads to disappointment. Just because you played the last six Resident Evil games the year they came out, doesn’t mean you have to plunk down $70 out of obligation in 2026. Question your hobbies and interests, spending the time the way you really want to.

That’s what I tell myself these days.

  21. REBLOG: ‘the way; or old lessons’ by Melissa Lemay

The poem below, written by Melissa Lemay, is made entirely from lines taken from twelve of my sijo. I am moved to tears that she read my work closely enough to gather these separate lines and shape them into a new poem with its own voice, movement, and emotional path.

This kind of poem is called a cento. The word comes from the Latin for a patchwork garment: pieces from existing works are brought together and arranged into something new. In Melissa’s hands, however, the result does not feel pieced together. The lines seem to speak naturally to one another, as though these connections had been waiting to be found.

Melissa has brought together recurring images from across my work, including roads, water, bridges, harbors, memory, and loss, and helped me see patterns in my own poetry that I had not fully recognized. I am touched by the care, imagination, and generosity behind this cento. Melissa is one of the most talented poets I know, and it is a true honor to see my words transformed through her poetic vision.

    Poem

the way now winds less sharply1
old lessons guide the brush I raise2
while my key still turns our old lock;3

    quiet currents seem to course;4
    countless mornings drifted by5
    the horizon yields no secrets6

    every heartbeat finds less room7
    water gathers in the cracks8
    for years I trusted bridges9

sleeping with my eyes open wide;10
I called your harbor peace —11
    no trace remains to confirm12

  22. REBLOG: ‘Blending’ by Elizabeth

    Poem

what it is that music is trying to say
the melody has opened a gate
    where past and present
    mingle together
    in the mirror
    Clearly I can see
    the younger and older me
    made of dreams and reality
    floating and grounded
    halves getting together
    petals making beauty
my delicious walk in the rain
    washing off all the sorrow
    lightness is welcoming

  24. REBLOG: ‘Morning Walk’ by M. Jay Dixit

    Poem

the moon high up in the blue
    small silver letter c
jotted down on a vast violet sheet
    with light streaks of orange
here and there but nothing as bright
as the green leaves of wild trees
    standing silently beside the road
    my camera flips the contrast
    when I capture the moon
    framed by the leaves
    they look dull
    while it looks bright
    they look dead
    while it looks alive

Prabowo’s Nutrition Agency Shake-Up Reveals Deeper Structural Problems

By Made Supriatma for Fulcrum.sg, July 9, 2026

President Prabowo’s recent decision to replace Dadan Hindayana as head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) did little to address the serious structural problems plaguing the institution. Dadan had overseen the administration’s flagship Free Nutritious Meals programme (or MBG, Makan Bergizi Gratis) but the policy remains deeply flawed in its design and implementation. Consuming nearly 7 per cent of Indonesia’s state budget, MBG has become one of the most controversial initiatives of the Prabowo administration. Policy analysts and protesters have pointed to the programme as contributing to Indonesia’s recent fiscal pressures. Read the whole piece here..

  26. REBLOG: ‘Tar’ by Bridgette White

    Poem

    no experience fighting
    speaking my words
    changing your mind
I throw black tar at you
    hoping it sticks
    until it does

    vomiting old wounds
    without my mask
    there’s nothing left
    but burning guts
    destruction looks ugly
    and so do I

    you run from me
    now a villainous fool
    as I cover myself
    folding up again
    swallowing my poison
    with a glass of wine
