  1. From a guts feel #Paessler not only want to annoy customers by increasing prices but also by replacing the certificates of #prtg every couple of versions causing issues updating. That's not the way to go for a good reputation...

  2. Looks like #paessler messed up their #prtg installer with the recent 26.1 release. New installation fails due to license issues. The older version installs just fine. Also upgrading works as expected.

  3. For once complaining about an outraging rise in license cost (more than 40%) worked.
I just mentioned that I am not willing to pay that and that I just instructed my team to start a software reevaluation and I got it reduced to the price I paid two years ago for the next three years.

  4. I find it stupid that notifications in #PRTG via HTTP action do not support either XML or JSON. So many APIs need this and www-form-urlencoded is just meh...

  5. Still no dice trying to get #PRTG to work with #supermicro redfish. Always errors with "Received HTTP/0.9 when not allowed". When CURLing the redfish API from the core server machine it works flawless. I don't get it...

  6. Is your company looking for a keen self-hoster with plenty of #Linux experience? I grew up with #RaspberryPi and have picked up many skills along the way including #React, backend JavaScript (#NodeJS) and #Docker. My current obsession is monitoring all the things with #Grafana, #PRTG and #Prometheus. I’m based in the UK but open to primarily English-speaking roles in Germany, too. Currently wrapping up my Advanced Software Development degree but eager to continue learning! Boosts appreciated :D

  8. #prtg from Paessler seems decent. But not having an option to install the core server on a non-windows system is a dealbreaker for me.

  9. Hey #SysAdmin, how do you monitor your servers? For me #PRTG and #Nagios are just too complicated. So i rolled my own: github.com/eitch/beacon-agent

Now i monitor CPU, Memory, Dis usage, packages, virtual machines and containers all from one agent, pushing to #UptimeKuma, which in turns uses #Gotify and mails to keep me informed if a server needs investigation.

This keeps me sleeping much better.

  11. How the fuck is it possible that #prtg from #paessler needs domain admin permissions to function properly?

  13. Have changed my homelab in the last few weeks pretty dramatically. After years of using QNAP Virtualization Station for running VMs, I now moved almost all VMs to Proxmox (one to go, but I can only do that once another mini-pc has arrived). For monitoring I switched from the free PRTG license (max. 100 sensors) to Zabbix. Two fundamental changes with which I'm very happy.

  15. Homelab is growing. The 100 free sensors of PRTG are not enough anymore. Am trying out Zabbix now as an alternative. Let's see.

  17. Please help me out. I need a #monitoring system. I want to collect basic metrics (cpu utilization, hdd free space, ram usage, ...) and check for things like http response status codes, latency, ... I need to monitor both computers and network equipment (switches, firewalls, vpn tunnels, ...).

And of course I need notifications that do not trigger alert fatigue.

    Which system should I use? #prometheus? #checkmk? #nagios? #prtg?
