  1. Raising funds for young antifascist prisoners of Russia :antifa: :anarchoheart2: :boostRequest:

Parents of two Chita antifascists, Lyubov Lizunova and Sasha Snezhkov, are raising funds to pay legal expenses for the appeal against the recent court sentence. Sasha’s mum is a single parent, she had suffered two strokes and cannot afford to cover the legal expenses. Lyubov’s parents have also been struggling to cover the costs of legal counselling the past two years, Russian cells of ABC were helping them previously.

Total sum is €4,400: Sasha needs €2,000 for legal expenses, Lyubov — €1,200. Both of them also need €600 each to cover the parcel expenses for the next 4 months.

This April, Lyubov was sentenced to three and a half years of corrective penal colony, and Sasha’s—to six years of corrective penal colony.

In Oct 2022, the two were detained and charged with vandalism and “calls for terrorism and infringing territorial integrity” (the last one’s later changed to “calls for extremism”). Sasha has spent nearly all this time in a detention center. Lyubov, then a minor, remained on house arrest up until this April, then put into custody. You can learn more about their case and their lives before it in this short film youtube.com/watch?v=9CzBS871_l (choose auto-translation of subs from Russian)

  2. Solidarity Zone raises funds for prisoner aid, 200,000RUB needed

    :boostRequest: :anarchoheart2:

Solidarity Zone is crowdfunding for the prisoners they support. The goal is to raise 200,000RUB / €2,000 to cover their expenses in September and October on humanitarian purposes—provision packages, prison canteen, books & periodicals, and communication services.

Solidarity Zone project supports militant antiwar prisoners of Russia, who oppose the ongoing Russian invasion and have been charged with or convicted for damaging enlisting offices, FSB facilities, or military and offence-relevant infrastructure.

  3. Today is #MaksymButkevych’s birthday, his third one in Russian captivity.

An antifascist, anarchist and human rights organizer, he was captured as a combatant defending his country from military invasion. His whereabouts were unknown up until 10 month later when a court in occupied Luhansk sentenced him to 13 years on fabricated charges. opendemocracy.net/en/odr/ukrai

Maksym is doing his time in a penitentiary—once a Ukrainian colony—in Krasnyi Luch, Luhanschina. He reads a lot and tries not to loose his French skills. I hope to see him out of prison as soon as possible—as well as all other captured Ukrainians, both combatants and non-combatans.

His story is widely known in Ukraine, but not so much in left or anarchist spaces outside the region. You can express support to him by including his story in the programme of your local event on the occasion of this year’s International Week of Solidarity with Anarchist Prisoners in August. Also, comrades in Russian jurisdiction (like me) can send your kind words by letter.

    Until all are free!

  9. Support group of defendants in Tyumen case made it public today that Roman Paklin, a 26 year old antifascist and a grassroots librarian from Siberia is diagnosed with schizophrenia-like disorder. It can be caused by the tortures Roma had been subjected to during the first days of his captivity: his arm became numb, his eyesight seriously degraded, he also has problems with his heart. Last August, he had been transferred from a detention center (SIZO) to psychiatric hospital, since then he’s been medicated. Roma’s mom has been appointed as his legal guardian, and
his case has been recently severed from the group, and “paused”. Roma reports, he’s been treated well, he writes poetry and does yoga.

The collective case against the other four antifascists from Siberia is going to the court soon. All the six reported torture, one of them, Kirill, agreed to become an FSB evidence against others, his severed case has also recently came to court.

Denise, Yura, and Danil face 15 to 30 years, and Nikita—as a purported leader of the group—a lifetime in prison.

  10. How to write a letter to a prisoner if you are not in Russia? Guide for those who are not native Russian speakers

Is it possible to write a letter in English?

The new rules of procedure in Russian prisons allow correspondence in any language, but, unfortunately, this does not work in practice. Most often, such letters are simply not allowed through, and if they are, many prisoners will not be able to read them. Even if on the outside a person spoke English, then in prison this skill is lost, because there is no practice.

You can ask your friends to translate your letter or use online translators. Automatic translations are not very good, but your support for the prisoner will be more important than the literacy of the letter itself.

To make it easier to translate the answer to your letter into English, ask the recipient to write it in block letters.

What to write about in a letter?

In a cell where the only entertainment available is talking to fellow inmates, books, letters, and the occasional TV, it's interesting to read just about anything.

In the first letter, you should introduce yourself, tell about yourself and your hobbies, and in response ask about the interests of the prisoner, so it will be easier for you to find common topics for conversation. Tell about the latest news, your pets, places to walk and travel. You can also describe the country where you live and its cultural practices.

In prison, everything that is outside of it will be interesting.

What exactly should not be written?

Do not discuss in correspondence the materials of the case and the facts related to them. This may harm your recipient, any additional information about the “crime” may add to the charge.

At present, everything is not clear with the discussion of the war in correspondence, in some institutions such letters are easily passed, in some they become a problem for prisoners, or the censor simply does not pass them on.

    How does censorship work?

General censorship rules for pre-trial detention centers and colonies do not exist at all. Not to miss the letter may be due to the internal rules of the institution or simply the mood of the censor. The only thing left to do here is to try. To increase your chances of getting censored, don't use swear words or strong language.

How to send an email and get a response?

You can send a letter by regular mail if your country of residence has not restricted postal communication with Russia. It is worth putting paper and a spare envelope into the envelope. Also, the prisoner will need postage stamps to answer, but they can only be bought in Russia. Often they are passed on by relatives or friends.

The letter can also be sent online through the volunteer resource RosUznik. It's easier and free, and the answer will come to your email in a scanned form. RosUznik project exists only on donations, you can find more information on how to support the project on their website.

Support the prisoners in any way you can.

People shouldn't be in prisons, and prisons shouldn't exist.
