Just putting it out there that the recent updates to the Tesla Powerwall suck big time. It keeps drawing power from the grid when there’s no need to do so. So much so that I’ve taken to keeping it off-grid for most of the day for the last several days. Somebody has been vibe coding, I’m certain.

Looking into getting home #solar as there are about to be new grants in the #UK. A big part of the attraction was #islandmode, being able to run off our solar panels in case of power cuts - which may become a thing with #ClimateChange and even #putin... Who knows. Anyway, I'm did not realise that this could cost as much as £4000 extra, and involve buying #tesla #powerwall batteries which I'm not about to do for obvious reasons. Can anyone around here advise? Is there a cheaper and less Musky way of dealing with this?

so i finally got through to #powerwall support staff today. here's what they told me:
- theres a 'new feature' where you can toggle in their app from 'automatic backup to manual backup'
- that feature is not visible in my copy of the app
- the support lady 'changed something on her end' and told me to wait 24 hours for the setting to appear in the app.
- if it doesnt appear, then she's going to escalateso tesla straight up created an option to disable automatic backup, and set it to manual

any other #powerwall owners out there? just FYI, if youre on firmware 25.34.1 it fucks up islanding. This appears to be related to a new rule in california about islanding (when your system goes into off-grid mode with solar/batteries)
that is to say - if the grid goes away, it wont flip you to battery. it'll just go offline until you manually open the tesla app and tell it to flip to battery.
disclaimer: i bought this system in 2020, before the nightmare began. now im stuck with it.

Every so often my #Tesla #PowerWall refuses to discharge to the grid when scheduled to do so. This happens every 3 months or so as far as I can tell. It bugs my OCD because I can’t work out what’s wrong.
I don’t know how often the issue occurs because it isn’t something I do particularly frequently. But yesterday and the day before - fine. Today - absolutely not, it just refuses. And because Tesla lock you out of any diagnostic information you are none the wiser as to why.
I’ve tried talking to the installer a couple of times in the past but it’s become pretty clear that they don’t have access to any diagnostics. In fact they also have been rather puzzled by the way I use the battery. They have enough access to see the schedules I’ve been setting up but aren’t used to somebody changing them almost daily (because I’m on Octopus Agile where the unit cost changes every 30 minutes) to minimise bills. So no point talking to them…

For the #VR guys&girls among us **not** just doing HMD stuff. If you are using #Linux and some sort of #X11 system you are facing a big wall running your #CAVE or #PowerWall. It turns out somebody under the moniker Link Mauve was trying to build stereo-capability into #Wayland but was turned down. I reached out to him and he has basically given up. Any takers in the professional visualization industry or teaching to care enough to finish this up?

Our Tesla #Powerwall has gone on the blink.
Some random googling suggests it’s affecting multiple people, and folks on Reddit and the Tesla forums speculating a problem with a recent firmware.
Awkward.
This also means I’ll need to speak with someone on the actual telephone tomorrow.

Got some quotes back for a battery for the house.
These are from the company that will only sell us two makes of battery because "we've had trouble with all the others don't you know.
They want to replace the one month old inverter too. And they can't be re-sold as they're tied to <things> apparently.
Surprisingly, their prices are actually pretty competitive. Even the #Tesla #PowerWall option. -

So power is back at our office in #pittsburgh after 4 days. We scrambled and moved servers to backup sites. Now we are thinking to leave servers (email and web) here since I have 50KW of solar and #powerwall with 42kWh of battery capacity. Not going to lose power.
Trying to explain PTR records for Reverse DNS to the ISP is another thing. I guess they don't get those requests all that often. At least I have fixed IP addresses. And, #Armstrong has been so accommodating. Not like some that filter Port 25 supposedly for your safety.
