So last night we finally watched the conclusion of Deadloch.

Deadloch is a short murder mystery series set in a small town on the coast of Tasmania.

The town has been the destination for a large number of sea and tree changers, which has lead to a number of stresses with the older families in the area. Not to mention the traditional custodians (yes, they do still exist).

So when a body turns up on a beach there is quite a stir. The region's Police Commissioner does not think the local cop's up to the task, and brings in a detective from interstate to run the case.

The two could not be more different, but their journey through the case is eye opening for both of them. And the growth in the secondary characters is wonderful.

Naturally, the town is buried in secrets that no-one wants to come out, and then more bodies start turning up. And more bodies. And still more.

To round out the setting, we have a very diverse cast of characters - which plays into the seachange town stresses perfectly.

The series is written by a pair of comedy greats in Australian TV, and it has many comedic moments, but at the heart of the show is the police procedural and murder mystery.

It is gritty, profane, rude, rough, and, like several of the characters, has an amazing and huge heart.

10/10 and a strong chilli chocolate with a salted caramel core on the Sid and Nancy scale.
