Hungary's Prime Minister is asking the world's greatest ever female chess player, Judit Polgár, if she is prepared to be Hungary's next President. [The Hungarian Parliament recently voted to effectively remove the current President from office several years before his term was due to expire. ] Polgár is an absolute legend not only in Hungary but throughout the chess world for her ground-breaking play and struggle, as a woman chess player, to be taken seriously. A remarkable person for sure. There is a great documentary on her, The Queen of Chess, - sadly on Netflix - which is well worth watching if you get the chance.
She is an inspired choice for President.
[UPDATE] Polgár has now declined the offer of the Presidency, saying, "she does not ‘feel enough strength within me’ to take on the responsibility of uniting a divided nation."

We recently watched the Netflix documentary Queen of Chess about the three Hungarian Polgár sisters, and especially Judit Polgár, undoubtedly the greatest female chess player of all time.
We thoroughly enjoyed it, especially Judit’s life, including her battles with world champion Garry Kasparov. For a time, Judit was the youngest Grandmaster ever, male or female, and remains the only woman to have achieved an Elo rating above 2700. [The Elo rating system was, of course, invented by a Hungarian!]
And while the Polgár sisters truly shattered chess’s male-dominated world, all three come across as grounded and refreshingly ordinary individuals.
Highly recommended, five stars.

I just watched the Queen of Chess documentary about the rise of Judit Polgar in the chess world. It shows excellently the sexism that Judit, and her sisters, had to endure as they strove to become the best players they could. The Polgar sisters were definitely ground breakers, who helped to improve the image and acceptance of women in chess, though, in my opinion, sexism and sexual harassment remain large issues that need to be dealt with.
A few weeks back I read Susan Polgar's autobiography Rebel Queen, so I was prepared for some of the revelations about the way the Polgar family were treated by the Hungarian authorities, and the chess world.
