  1. We scored the only flat of prairie dropseed that existed at the entire multi-vendor event.

Now we just have to find butterfly milkweed, Asclepias tuberosa. Word on the street is it’s hard to come by given a late frost. Ho-hum.

  6. Third weekend we’re heading out in search of the seven specific and common native plants we need for a garden I’ve wanted to build for months. This will be the 5th place/event in three weeks. The things we put ourselves through…

Wish me luck, I need it!

  7. Today has been…. a lot.

So, here’s our red columbine looking mighty fine.

This plant has been absolutely abused its whole life. Only a few months ago we put it in a deep pot with plenty of room. And wow! It’s back, baby!

  8. ALSO: Holy crap Elderberry is a BEAST. How did so much of it survive? Y’all need to get some and plant it because if our year of hell can’t kill it, I bet you can’t either.

  9. It's awesome to see native gardening pick up. Stuff like Homegrown National Park, Shrink the Lawn, Less Lawn More Life etc.

If you have boring turf grass and want to be part of the solution, check out this free webinar hosted by Missouri Department of Conservation Monday Nov 3 at 5 PM (central)

  10. Native plants are so dang cool. They are crazy hardy compared to stuff that evolved elsewhere.

Here’s a great example: We bought this 1-gallon #serviceberry last fall. Unfortunately, we ran out of time and it didn’t get planted. It should not have survived winter.

A few weeks ago I did “the scratch test” near the top of the stem to see if it was still alive and it wasn’t.

WELL. Further down? We’ve got life! YAY! #PlantNative

  11. Dear internet: For my ambitious weekend project I needed to level my giant, HEAVY 2x6 planters, secure the light posts in the middle, dig up the ton of dirt to fill them, string the guy wire, and hang 100 ft of string lights.

Somehow I did it all today. 🤯 I am BEAT. But accomplished.

Later this season once the dirt settles I’ll refill and plant with #virginiacreeper and #passionflower.
